DEAR ABBY: My son is getting married next year. My future daughter-in-law is demanding that I (mother of the groom) wear a strapless green dress. The bride is also wearing green.

I am over 40 and no longer have a 20-something body, and I'm extremely uncomfortable wearing a dress where all my imperfections hang out and wobble for the world to see. She has informed me that if I don't wear the dress of her choice, I should just stay home.

Everyone I have talked to has told me to pick the style and color dress I prefer. If I show up in a dress that isn't green, I'm pretty sure it will create a scene and I'll be asked to leave.

I don't know what to do! Do I cave and wear what she asked of me, or wear what I want and face the wrath of Bridezilla? -- SEEING GREEN IN ILLINOIS

    Dear Seeing,

Apparently you raised a dolt or he lost his testicles somewhere along the way.

Pick a dress that you love and that someone who's advice you trust tells you you look wonderful.

Go the wedding and enjoy yourself. If she asks you to leave, tell her to go fuck herself.

    Security may be called.

Have a great place in mind to go knock back a few and have some fabulous food if you are kicked out seeing as you are looking so good and will deserve it in abundance.

Keep the door and your heart open to your son and just a crack for the shrew he is marrying.

That would be my response, off the cuff Smiley smile

I wish Abby had suggested to have mom send the bride here, we would have had something to tell her! I don't get people thinking they should dictate what other people wear! For my wedding, I gave my mom and MIL a color swatch of the bridesmaid dresses in case they wanted to coordinate but that was it (but I also only told the bridesmaids and my MOH what color I wanted them to wear). Both my mom and MIL asked me to go shopping with them. My mom ended up with a bridesmaid's dress and I loved how it looked on her. MIL ended up wearing something she already had (I tried to get mom to wear something she already had as well, I didn't want anyone to spend more to be part of the wedding than they had to).

Also, I love the dresses you chose and I love that you and your son's MIL coordinated and it seems like you all get along, that's great as with the cute nugget you will surely see them often!

@Theresa, my dil is an only child so when it comes to holidays, I make sure to include her parents as well. Why should they be alone? Besides, I actually like them.

I have a great photo of her dad and I at the rehearsal dinner but I am fat as all get out and rather ashamed of it Smiley smile

@NonnaT you're right, she is the sweetest. :-) And in everything she did, she was trying so hard to be involved in my wedding without stepping on my mother's toes. I'm lucky to have her.

Your reply to the letter writer is perfect!!

Honestly, the son should run now, not pass go, not collect $200.
