Dealing with a disrespectful vendor - continued

Krystal, on July 20, 2022 at 3:22 PM Posted in Community Conversations 0 11

Thank you all for who have provided so much advice and insight on my wedding dress situation! I thought I would post about this on going drama to see what your thoughts were.

Previous dress posts:

https://www.weddingwire.com/wedding-forums/getting-a-refund-for-ruined-wedding-dress/fcf22adfd70c4e19.html

I sent an email asking if we could settle this between us because well as much as I have wanted to just go ahead post the bad review, I wanted to see if I could get a refund. (I had contacted the designer who then told me a couple days later that they would no longer be selling their dresses to the store)

She called us. She wouldn’t let us talk at all. It was literally a monologue about how she’s in the right and how they couldn’t hem my dress as they described and pinned it….(https://www.weddingwire.com/wedding-forums/messed-up-hem-on-bridal-dress/542f8a064f8af75f.html ).

In fact she even told us about how she sold a dress to a bride that she wouldn’t refund because they couldn’t alter it since the bride “had a crooked body”.

Not sure if I should bother meeting with her at this point or just leave the review? I have literally no idea but she told me for this meeting to happen my husband needs to be there..?? I paid for the dress……he had nothing to do with the purchase.

She later emailed my husband separately and told him I was telling him false accusations about her. She told him that me “creating rumors that can harm my business can result in a lawsuit because business disparagement is a civil cause of action under California law.”

I have all the photos of the horrible stages of this job 🙄. The phone call was on Sunday and they actually looked me up on Instagram and blocked me even though I haven’t tagged them or commented on anything 😳.

At first I was going to just let it go but the way she turned a simple conversation into such a disrespectful and hostile situation, I’m not sure what to do. So I come to this extremely helpful community on what you would do with this lady.

I hope no one ever needs to have such a horrid experience with their own dress shopping. Thanks everyone 💕

I would leave a negative review anywhere you can with pictures if possible. It doesn't sound like having a conversation with this woman is going to get you anywhere. If she is petty enough to file a small claims case against you, countersue for everything you spent on the dress and bring all the photos of what they did to ruin your dress.

Same I’d leave a review & see if you can maybe sell it online if you wish. The work she did from your previous post was TERRIBLE. Wow! So sorry you have to go through this. She wouldn’t get far with a case because you have documentation, she’s probably just trying to use that as a scare tactic so you can back off. Wouldn’t suggest having a meeting with her either.

Thank you for your help!! Do you know/think if she could actually file anything against me for posting a bad review? She let out so much information during the call screaming at me and my husband, I know that she will do something. Any bad review that has been written about her store she has responded to… she’s even responded publicly on Yelp calling a customer a witch… lol

Thank you! I 100% plan on leaving reviews. I think meeting with her would be useless. The botched dress situation is done and over with, it’s just her completely unacceptable treatment she has given me that has made me want to take any action I can. It was a terrible job completely. In one of the photos you can actually see a part of the dress an associate cut off right in front of me with a pair of office scissors 😑

Technically yes a business can claim your review has false statements in it and sue you for defamation and slander. So be very mindful of the words you use in the review and make sure you have proof to back up your statements. it actually became such an issue that Congress had to intervene by passing the Consumer Review Fairness Act of 2016 to protect consumers from unwarranted intimidation and punishment by companies for posting honest reviews. It could very well be an empty threat on her end but choose your words carefully. Sorry this happened to you. Best of luck to you!

I would not deal with this woman again. She sounds like a horrible person. Who tells a customer that another customer has a crooked body and uses that as an excuse? Any review you put on Google is permanent and cannot be removed not matter how many times she harasses google. The fact that you can back up your claims with evidence is key.

She has been so hostile that we could not have the conversation in front of our toddler! But yes she did tell me that a dress was unable to be altered at the fault of the bride of having a “crooked body”. I was seriously so shocked to hear that. The designer did message me on Instagram themselves about not working with this shop anymore. I just reply don’t understand the owner’s point of view because idk what I was supposed to do..? Like have no dress >48 hours before my wedding..?? I was also wondering if she can pay to take down Yelp or google reviews? And now that she’s threatening to sue me … lol

Thank you as well!! I’m trying to be very careful with my review. But this woman has seriously gone above and beyond to make me even want to take such actions. I thought that it was enough when the designer cut her off but if I was able to share the phone call….ugh 🤦🏻‍♀️

If you leave an honest review on Yelp or GoogleMaps, they cannot pay Yelp/Google to have them removed and it warns future brides to be careful. Unfortunately if you post a review on WW or TheKnot, the vendor can dispute the review and it will be removed in their favor.

Contact a local lawyer to see if small claims court is a beneficial option for closure for you. Also contact the consumer reports teams at your local tv stations. They give an amazing amount of help for consumers who are in situations such as this where they have exhausted all other resources to resolve the case on their own.

Yeah, no way. And as a business/professional you’d think she would be more than happy to make things right since it was their fault. That’s just good customer service and the right thing to do.
