Messed up hem on bridal dress :(

Krystal, on October 21, 2021 at 10:59 AM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 16
My bridal shop for some reason cut my dress from the bottom when they told me it would be hemmed from the top and pulled up so I wouldn’t be missing any lace from the bottom. I can see that that they cut it pretty messy straight from the bottom… is it even possible to be fixed at this point if I go to a tailor??? They just gave it to me last night and my wedding is in two days & I am so upset. I attached pictures of the sample dress, my dress when it was being pinned up, and the final result. What bothers me the most is that the two lace flowers in the front are literally cut in half…….Messed up hem on bridal dress :( 1

Oh my gosh, this was sheer laziness! I would demand a refund for two reasons: 1. They damaged your dress. And 2. They charged you to alter the dress from the top, meaning they needed to remove the lace around the middle of your dress, remove the excess, then replace the lace appliqués around the waist. They obviously did not do that – they simply cut right through your beautiful appliqués at the bottom! What they charged you for was hours of extensive work. What they did was a quick sloppy job, which would never warrant the same charge as what they told you they would be doing.
At this point, only two days out from your wedding, I am sorry to say I doubt it can be fixed. You would need to find brand new lace appliqués that are identical to the ones they cut, or all new lace appliqués to replace all of them at the bottom of the skirt (but keep in mind they need to match the ones at your waist at least enough to not be noticeable they are different). Then you will need to find a seamstress that can do all this work in the next 24 hours. That’s not to say it’s impossible! You could try reaching out to reputable seamstresses in your area to see if they are available and if maybe they would have lace appliqués on hand that would work (or, if they do not have anything on hand, you could also hit the pavement and see if you could find something close enough at a local fabric store). I am so sorry, girl! My heart goes out to you!

If it makes you feel any better, I couldn't figure out what you were talking about until I reread what you said and that's coming from someone who notices every little detail on things. I don't think anyone is going to notice at all! It's still a beautiful dress!

Actually, there is a third reason to demand a refund… because you are going to have to shell out more money to have it fixed, if you can find someone to do it- And you will likely have to pay a rush charge if you find a seamstress to take this on

Looking at the photo more closely, another option might be to have them remove the part of the appliqués they cut into. That would leave a few inches of plain tool between the bottom of the dress and the beginning of the appliqué, which is how the original dress was anyway! I think removing those parts would make it look intentional and fix the flow of the appliqués, instead of it being bluntly cut in half and just ending abruptly

I’m so sorry this happened to you! Like someone else said, it’s very hard to notice unless I go back and read what you meant. It doesn’t change the fact that they messed up, but I hope it provides some reassurance. I would also ask for your money back, because what you asked for is very obviously not what they did. I hope you’re able to work something out!

Thank you so much for all your advice, I appreciate it so much!! So unhappy with this store, but I don’t think it’s even possible to find someone willing to take on the job with this time span Smiley sad

I’m sorry this happened. You do lol beautiful and I’m sure no one will notice, but I agree with Cece on getting a refund. Seriously, I wouldn’t drop it with them even if you can get 50% back - they’re complete armatures not professionals.

That is EXACTLY what they did. Demand a full refund! You could have literally done what they did at home with a pair of scissors for free!
If you look at the back of the appliqués, are you able to take small cuticle scissors and remove just the pieces that have been cut? I have done it with a dress before, and it was actually really easy (but a little time consuming).

During my fitting there was a large snag/loose thread I asked them to fix, not sure where the seamstress went but the sales associate literally grabbed a pair of scissors from the front desk and cut it off and a bit of the fabric as well. With the desk scissors. 🥴

OMGGGG. I'm not sure if it can be fixed, but I would be asking for some sort of refund.

Do you think I can get the full dress and alterations refunded if the dress was never in my possession??

I definitely would argue for that because that is just ridiculous. Why would they even do that 🤦🏾‍♀️

I went to this same exact store and had my dress altered by the same tailor (I see her in the back of your photo). She ruined my dress. What ended up happening here? I picked up my dress recently and I'm so distraught!!

    Hi Brenda,

I ended up taking the loss. They were unwilling to issue a refund and my credit card wouldn’t let me dispute it either after calling them - they concluded because I picked up my dress I was ineligible. (But I mean my wedding was in <1.5 days…..)

We had some very upsetting phone calls with the owner where she was very aggressive and she even claimed that she never met me. I emailed her all the photos and she still insisted I bring the dress to the store for her to look at. I even quoted anonymously the very helpful input I have gotten from my posts here and she completely disregarded it.

I have a toddler and I know there was no budging for her, it would have been a waste of time to meet her in person. She also refused to have a meeting in an agreed location, she would only allow me to drive to her store during her lunch hour. We had started emails after she refused to speak on the phone anymore. I’ve been meaning to write a review about this entire situation but been super busy Smiley sad

My sister actually made a comment about me on someone’s video about her experience there on tiktok and the person responded to her comment it got quite a few views https://www.tiktok.com/t/ZTRcwAENT/ (definitely worth a view for the feedback received) Will you let me know if you have any luck with her?
