DC/MD/VA Brides - Where did you get ready/stay for wedding day/night?

mrsaj2b, on October 23, 2014 at 12:57 AM Posted in Planning 0 7

My venue has a bridal suite but I plan to only use it for a freshening up/holding room when I arrive and to use for when I change into my reception dress. Otherwise, the suite is not that big to use for getting ready. So I am looking for a room that I can use to get ready in and then convert to my wedding night suite. My house is too far away to get ready there.

Since my venue is near the Harbor it would make sense to stay at one of the hotels at National Harbor but while I love the Harbor I am not sure I love the hotels there. Anyone staying at a National Harbor hotel or has already stayed there to tell me if the price per night that I am seeing is worth it?

If I don't stay at the Harbor I am thinking to stay in Old Town Alexandria or in DC. There are several chic/trendy hotels that I like and would be willing to pay a few dollars for.

Any recs for these two areas? Right now the Lorien Spa and Park Hyatt hotels are on the top of my list.

TIA

I've stayed at the Gaylord and it's really nice. They also have a rooftop bar for hotel guests only (you have to show room keys to be let up) if you want a little after party with other guests staying there.

I believe my company did a room block there and got a decent discount as well.

If you go to Old Town, Hotel Monaco is nice.

I completely agree with the Gaylord! It's absolutely amazing on the inside and for your photographer, you can't shoot their unless you stay there, so there's a plus! There are quite a few in Old Town that might be less expensive and just a quick jump across Woodrow Wilson Bridge

I agree, the Gaylord is really nice. I also frequently see Groupon deals pop up so keep your eyes peeled!

    Thank you everyone!

Do you mind sharing what room type you had at the Gaylord. I was looking at one of the atrium suites or river view suites. Are they big enough to get ready in? I will have myself, 3 BMs, 2 FGs, my Mom, the videographer, hairstylist, makeup artist, and photographer in the room with me.

I just had a standard room with 2 doubles. It was...standard. Spacious enough! Do you live near National Harbor? They'll probably let you arrange a tour if you plan to do a hotel block. My hotel block was just a Holiday Inn and they gave me a tour of the standard room and the room I would have.

Yeah I love the gaylord. I had an atrium view and it was really pretty and spacious.

We went ahead and booked two rooms for myself and my groom to get ready in separately with our BMs and GMs. My room will also be the one for the wedding night. :-)

Should be a fun time! The harbor is a great place. Thanks again everyone.
