Daytime Reception

Private User, on May 29, 2014 at 9:11 AM Posted in Planning 0 13

I'm having a daytime (~noon to 4) reception with plated lunch, host bar and dj. I haven't been to a daytime reception, but it was necessary to fit all of our important family and friends in our budget. I'm worried that it will just be weird with day light and timing and all just because I haven't really experienced one... anyone have a similar day time reception that could give any advice on what they WISH they had planned for or included? It's at a country club with beautiful views outside nice large windows.

Wow that's beautiful!! I'm having trouble mentally adjusting to a daytime party, have you had to make many adjustments? I've barely planned more than date, time and location Smiley smile

That's a really good point about the pictures. I'm glad it worked out well for you! I think I just binge watched too many episodes of 4 weddings and they were all at night!

My ceremony starts at 1230 and reception ends at 6. The only real thing I did was use brighter colors and less candles than you would do at a night wedding.

I have been to one, the ceremony started at 10 am. The reception ran from 1:00 to 5pm but the odd thing is it really disrupts your sense of time, when leaving the reception, the thought I had was...oh it is still so bright outside. I had fun but I would prefer being able to drink since day time receptions don't seem to have alcohol. Some guests said a few words about how they wanted alcohol. The food ended up being like brunch food, with waffles and bacon. There were talks of an after party which in the end did not happen. If your reception is outdoorsy then you will definitely get better pics!

I am having one. Ceremony starts at noon and reception will be over with by 4:30. I don't really have anything that I had to adjust.... other than the thought that I wanted lots of twinkle lights and I realised that they wouldn't even be seen in the daytime. Fh has had to adjust a little since he wanted a full out formal tux... and he overheard easy. Not good in the late June heat outdoors lol.

We're definitely having alcohol! The windows can be closed off to make it dark, but the views are so pretty I want to leave them open. .. not OPEN but visible. That should eliminate the "holy smokes it's still lightout?!" effect, like when you go to a matinee movie lol. I'm just hoping that daylight + dj + alcohol will still equal fun and dancing!

Yeah the tux and dress in the heat are why we definitely wanted to stay indoors.... and i love twinkle lights, we can't have those either Smiley sad

We are having a daytime reception --ceremony at 11:30 with lunch to follow. It will be a different mood/atmosphere, sure, but that's what I'd prefer anyway.

We're getting married at 10am. Cocktail hour 1030-12 and then reception from 12-4. We are in a ballroom so it's a little different, but we're doing a ton of uplighting to set the scene for a great party. We splurged on the DJ and are having 4 hours of cocktails and tons of food. We're planning an after party to follow. I don't think it'll be much different than an evening wedding.

I think a day wedding could definitely be just as fun as a night wedding!! I am sure you have gone to at least one awesome day party in your life. I think most people have. Plus I agree that you will get great pictures!

We are having a 11:30am Ceremony with reception after until 5pm. Working on putting an after party together at the hotel most people are staying at. Food will be off the "dinner" menu and not the lunch menu and there will definitely be alcohol.
