Day/month of Coordination

Jourdan, on March 27, 2020 at 3:01 PM Posted in Planning 0 8

Hello All,

I am trying to figure out whether or not a Day of Coordinator is worth it. I've been reaching out to vendors in my area and the starting prices are $1,200 for day of. Month of have been upwards of $1,400 and $1,600. Are these usual prices?

I really just need someone to set up the decorations. I don't mind DIYing everything, but we can only get into our venue 2 hours prior and all of my family/friends will need to be getting ready during this time.

My only other option is hiring a decorator who will set up and take down all of her own decor, but this will also run me probably around 2K.

Who all did you use to set up your ceremony/reception areas?

Thanks in advance!

Can you find someone where they have a smaller minimum of hours? For me I had the same issue where I only needed someone to set up for me so I found a Day or coordinator with only a two hour minimum needed to do it

Our DOC cost $1300 and was the best money that we spent on our wedding.

Those prices seem about average. I opted to pick a venue that came with a DOC and that does setup and take down.

Those were the average prices I saw as well. Remember that coordinators can also help with taking things down at the end of the event. Everyone will be tired so it’s nice to know that you can have someone there to pack up everything. I debated a lot on whether to hire one or not but I honestly think the price is worth it so I can have peace of mind!

We were planning to "hire" a youth group to set up tables and set out decor. We may still do that, but we're now several months away. So I have time to rethink.

Not sure where you’re located, but those are average or below average in the Southern California area. Most run around $**** for month-of-coordination packages.

Month-of-Coordinators also help with your timeline and rehearsal as well.
My venue had a coordinator, but because of the scale of my wedding, they required that we also hire an independent month-of-coordinator. Her team handled most of my vendor communication the weeks prior, incoming deliveries that day, set up (my personal decor, napkin folding, signs setup, placement cards, etc) and tear down. Besides the card box which one of my bridesmaids took along with us on our shuttle back to the hotel— no one in my party/family or guests had to worry about grabbing anything or cleaning.
Mine was definitely worth the extra cost. Aside from my ceremony/reception venue and catering, I had 16 other vendors for my wedding day. There was no way I would have been able to direct or field their questions and calls. My coordinator even bought umbrellas, printed our ceremony programs (I forgot to do it! :/), and searched for a replacement tree for our planting ceremony the day before my wedding... all things would have been unable to do since we were having a pre-wedding event that day.

I think it's much better to hire a decorator, since they have the knowledge and expertise needed to have your wedding decorated the way you want it to be decorated. While most decorators can cost upwards to $2000 or more, I think maybe looking for wedding decorators on your local Facebook groups may help. Also, most wedding coordinators are there to help plan and coordinate your wedding, so it may cost you a bit extra if you have them do manual labor.

We’re having a month-of coordinator & she had different package prices to choose from. We also added on set-up and break-down of all decor because we won’t have time to do it nor do we want our family boxing everything up afterwards. So far, it’s been the most worthwhile cost. I send her pictures of my table mockups, etc + an inventory list & drop off all items at her shop 1-2 days before the wedding and she takes care is the rest.
