Day of jobs for teens cousin

Trevor, on September 30, 2022 at 11:44 AM Posted in Family and Relationships 0 11
A little back ground: I have serious family politics I need to deal with. I have managed to insist politics are not part of my day but there is a lot of complaints to find a job of one of my cousins (16 year old girl) because I gave another cousin a job. We arent close enough to make her part of the party and I already gave the usher job to another cousin (the one I am closer too and the reason for the compliments). I am looking for an easy job for her that doesn't require me to add a big expense to our wedding to make a job for her. Any suggestions are welcome!

If there is any distinction to be found here, you could possibly give a greeting task at the ceremony. Or, maybe she is not ready for this, to announce the grand entrance to the reception.

Are you having programs? If so could she handle them out when guests walk in.

That was my first idea, but I forgot to mention that my fiance is very against programs. He especially doesn't want them just to make a job for a disgruntled family member.

Hmmm that makes it difficult. Could you have two ushers?

Just make her an usher too. Or have her make the announcement for everyone to be seated because the ceremony is starting. She could be in charge of moving the card box/any gifts to the bridal suite (or other safe location)

Just have two ushers. It's perfectly fine to do that.

Sorry that you feel that you have to create a job out of thin air due to family grumpiness! There is so much to contend with when planning your wedding that it really seems most unfair when people start to add to your workload.

Are you having/providing confetti? If so perhaps she could pass them out on arrival.

Maybe for bubble-making items or handing out glow sticks, so that there is not such a mess.

Ushers is the best neutral position. Not all circles have extra jobs such as readers, greeters, etc. I’m curious if this teen cousin even wants to participate at all beyond being a guest. If they don’t, they are being steamrolled as well.

Setting and maintaining boundaries is important and it’s not your fault if someone else oversteps those but it does give them permission to do whatever they want without respect toward others. Do what you need to.
