Day Of Event Coordinator

Devan, on February 4, 2021 at 11:52 AM Posted in Planning 0 9

My venue is one that requires you to get all services separately but provides a day of event manager to coordinate with vendors. Our caterer will be providing tables, linens, and table wear but we will be DIYing centerpieces, the Photobooth and ceremony space. Due to the DIY decor, my venue suggested that we secure a day of event planner for set up and breakdown of the decor. The event planner informed us that day of event planning packages start at $2750. As such, I have some questions:

- Does this seem high for a day of event planner? - is it worth securing these services just for set up and break down of decor or should I delegate bridal party and family members to help set it up ourselves?- If you set up decor by yourself, how did you manage it?

Their day of event manager can’t do that for you?
I set up my ceremony and broke down the reception myself but didn’t do my set up because I hired a day of coordinator for it. Can you find a day of coordinator with a lesser minimum of hours needed so that they can just handle the decorating set up? That’s what I did

I would look for a cheaper day of coordinator, but I wouldn't make your friends and family set up for your wedding. They are already going to be busy getting ready for your wedding. They should be able to enjoy themselves rather than work.

Coordinators employed by venue only care about venue logistics: are rules being followed?

An outside coordinator is required for the specific details because it's not guests' responsibility either. Take a look at thumbtack.com to get a range of prices for area and don't setlle for the first you meet.

Price will definitely depend on where you live but that does seem high.
I paid $600 for a DOC, although she was very cheap and most cost around $1,300 in my area.

That sounds expensive just for day of! I've been shopping around for one as well and it's about $1000 to $1500 for day of depending on add ons and extra hours.

My venue requires my to hire a day of coordinator. But if you can get away with not having one, you could definitely get the wedding party and family members to help with that stuff.

Please do not ask friends/family to be your coordinators. Speaking as someone who has been in that role as a guest, you don't have time or opportunity to enjoy any of the wedding outside of a minute here or there. Your guests are not equipped to make sure vendors are all on the same page or fix problems as/before they arise.

Not suggesting family/friends be the day of coordinator! I was suggesting they could help with the setup of her DYI decorations.

I myself will be hiring at the very least a day of wedding coordinator, but most likely a Wedding Coordinator with Partial Planning services.

I wouldn’t be asking family and friends to be my wedding day coordinators as my venue provides a day of event manager to be a liaison for the vendors and I have a full service catering company. The venue suggested I hire someone only to set up and break down my DIY decorations. I don’t mind paying for a day of wedding coordinator but I don’t want to pay $2,500- 3,000 to set up and break down centerpieces and a Photobooth.
