It's definitely a necessity to have someone on hand to coordinate day of, but please do not confuse that with the BMs. My BM is the real life 27 dresses... she's a pro BM... and in every wedding she's in, she pretty much tries to tackle the coordinator duties too. She flat out says "it's what I do." I slapped her hand (nicely) and said not in mine. All my BM and MOH had to do was look pretty. I had two other friends, who I became close to too late in planning to be BMs, help me day of. They were honored and excited to have a role in the day, and I couldn't have done it without them. I didn't have any setup to do, but they were there to take phone calls, run emergency errands, etc. BMs can't do those things.

Yes, they have completely different jobs. DOC is a profession and BM is your close friend in a dress and standing next to you at the alter. That is absolutely it!

Also, your event space maybe have event staff but let me tell you how happy I am to have my wedding planner. My event people seem to think they are running the show and with my wedding planner there, no, they will have to do things I wanted and how I wanted them done!

    DOC.

Your bridesmaids are likely getting ready with you, getting hair/make up done, getting photos done, and then the actual wedding. It's a lot to do as is. Don't stress them out by making them slave labor too.

Lol I care about my friends too much to make them set up things, coordinate the vendors, etc. I preferred that their "job" be to drink wine with me and have a good time.

Just a quick question, OP....you said you don't know what a wedding planner and DOC would do so I'm curious as to what you THINK they would do as well as what you think their purpose is and why you think you would need one?

Get a DOC. Let your BM's be honored guests.
