Hey Ladies,

I just need to rant to someone other than my SO who doesn't understand my dress dilemma, lol. So Saturday I had my bridal dinner to introduce my bridesmaids to each other and to look for dresses. After dinner, we all headed to David's Bridal to look around at dresses. I had shopped there several times before and always had a lovely experience. Upon walking in my sales associate told me that I had a unique name, my name is Jess... I should have known that there that this wasn't going to be a fun time. I immediately saw a dress I loved that was on the manikin and told her I wanted to try it on. She looked at me shocked and said, how high was your budget again. The dress was just $1,400, not some crazy designer amount. Along with that I picked out some similar designs and let my bridesmaids each pick a dress.

We went back to try on the dress and they wouldn't let my bridesmaids help me, I walked out in front of everyone with unzipped dresses and she kept trying to tell me I need to put on a corset to look slimmer. She even brought me one that was covered in stains. I politely sat it to the side, and she later critiqued me on if I had put it on I'd look better. I eventually got fed up and asked for my bridesmaid to zip the dress, so that the rest of the shop wouldn't get a good view of my Zelda panties. The sleeves of the dress I liked came second and she wouldn't put them on, she used no clips to help the dresses actually fit, they all looked like a hot mess, and she randomly stuck a veil in my hair and completely messed it up.

To make matters worse, I ended up with the entire staff watching me put on dresses, and was highly annoyed even when I found a dress that everyone liked. I decided to go with a shorter dress, with shoes, and a belt. I went to the front to pay and asked how much it was she gave me a total of $550 which was way off from the calculations in my head and I asked if she got everything....low and behold the receipt printed out and the shoes weren't on there but a $150 veil was. I called her out and she said well I can add the shoes on now, sadly those where some bomb shoes and I said fine. I knew that once I signed the first receipt I could only exchange the items for store credit anyway....

I didn't know that the associates where suppose to fit the dress and clip it till I went home, I just figured they all would look like plastic bags on me, since the short one was the only one in my size that I had my bridesmaids help me with. Now I feel like I would have loved my original dresses if they would have fit after doing research online. I'm having major dress regret, and feel like I was just mistreated.

I wasn't dressed up fancy, so maybe they assumed I was lying about my budget? I literally just wore a black graphic tee and pants that where easy to take off, I didn't want to get dressed up nice to throw my clothes in the floor while trying on a million dresses.

I had a equally unpleasant experience at David's Bridal so I just had my bridesmaid's try on dressed and I went to 2 boutiques that were actually better dresses and similar price categories. Way better experience at the boutiques and it was so much fun! I agree with above about talking with a manager. I would go in in person though and discuss it. Then contact a few local boutiques and get yourself pampered a little! Best of luck.

I had a really good experience at DB, so I would definitely go back and specifically ask to see someone else and try on the original dress you loved. Ask to have it clipped properly, and return the dress you don’t want. I’m sorry this happened to you, id also file a complaint because no one should ever be made to fee that way when shopping for your special day.

Just found out ththe store special ordered everything instead of just getting it from stock like they said so it cant ve returned. I have emailed corporate directly explaining the situation and I'm literally horrified this store tried to screw me into these products.

Uuuugh. What a pain. You can 100% exchange your dress though - they should let you pick something new that you like better. If not, I would raise some ruckus until corporate hears. I'm so sorry this happened to you. It's bad business practice- maybe a different David's Bridal would be able to advise you better as well.
