David’s Bridal sor scare tactic?

Brianna, on October 9, 2019 at 6:16 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 10
So I recently put my wedding dress on layaway at David’s bridal because the consultant I had picked a dress that was widely over my budget and I fell in love with it. I only have one remaining payment that is due 11/12/19. I received a voicemail from DB on 10/7/19 that if I did not make a payment SOR was going to be canceled and they would be charging me a fee. But at the end of the voicemail she reiterated that my last payment is due 11/12, so I’m very confused as to what they are doing. It kind has left a bad taste in my mouth after a less than desirable experience at the store during my consultation ( my consultant had three brides she was working with and never gave me any of the dresses I had picked out to try on.) Has anyone had a similar experience?

I'm sorry, I'm not sure what SOR means. If I were you, I would call to double check to make sure you're on the correct plan and you're not about to be charged any extra fees.

Not exactly the same experience but I’m not surprised. DOB is known for things like that. I purchased 2 MOB dresses from them and they told me it would take weeks to deliver. They were pressuring me to buy right away as well. I did end up buying and the dresses were delivered to my home in 10 days....not weeks. When shopping for a bridal gown for my daughter they were awful. The consultant had many brides like yours did and we had to pull our own dresses. Certainly wasn’t the ‘Say Yes To The Dress’ experience we had been hoping for. Fortunately she bought from a different shop that was much more attentive and less pushy. I would be peeved at the way they treated you, especially since your last payment isn’t due for over a month. Do yourself a favor and do NOT use them for alterations. Take delivery of your dress and go find a reputable seamstress that will give you a better experience. Best of luck to you!

When did you layaway your dress? It sounds like your last payment may in fact be 11/12 but it sounds like you have missed a payment. They only give you 90 days to pay for it when you do a layaway and they give you a break down of what dates the payments need to be made on. It also says the order will be cancelled and you will be charged a fee if you miss payments

Look at the papers/receipt your received it's on there

I’ve never missed any payments and paid over 50% down my last payment was a week and a half ago. That’s why I thought it was really weird!

If I were you I'd call, to make sure they don't cancel your order. It would really suck to be paying for this dress all this time, just to have them cancel it right before the last payment.

Sorry you had that experience.. I was worried about DB’s but had a smaller dress budget. I made sure and booked my spot for during the week so I knew they wouldn’t be busy. I lucked out and had the most fantastic consultant. She brought me all my dresses and didn’t even push the more expensive ones.

I have had a bad experience twice at David's Bridal. My consultant acted like we were bothering her both times I had an appointment. Did not know you could do layaway. I asked and she smiled and said we don't have layaway. Sorry they have treated you poorly as well. Go into the shop ask to talk to a manager have that manager sign last payment.

I would call for sure. If you get the run around make sure to threaten to leave a bad review. A friend of mine who has worked for DB said it usually makes them take things seriously.

I also had a terrible experience. My consultant was awful and didn't know what she was doing. She told me straight up lies and pushed me into dresses I told her I didn't want. I ended up finding my dress in spite of her. When I went to get it cleaned I found out the extent of her lies, but thankfully the alterations department manager was very helpful and offered to waive a few fees to get my dress cleaned properly. I am very wary of DB now.

If any of my friends get engaged and need a wedding dress, I would tell them to not even go to DB for a dress...but if they had to then go there 1st and not to buy the dress the day they try it on...to atleast wait and sleep on it.

My experience at DB was not the best. I felt pressure from my consultant to buy a dress. And kept telling me the sale was ending so I wouldn't be able to get a dress at a better price. (Come to realize DB has sales all the time)...anyways. that's the short version.
