David’s Bridal Sample and sizing help

Jackie, on June 12, 2018 at 12:56 AM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 5
Hey all, so I’m more than likely getting my dress at David’s since I can’t seem to find very many bridal boutiques near me within my price range and I really don’t want to just buy a dress online without trying it on first. Anyways, I have three issues I’m looking at.
1. I found my dress as a sample dress in my size, has anyone bought sample dresses from David’s and do they fix the imperfections and rips that could be there?
2. The dress I want is beautiful, the bodice is very detailed, but the skirt is very plain. Am I being ridiculous or is there a way to maybe add detailing down the skirt without breaking the bank?
3. Lastly, I’ve lost some and plan to lose more weight before my wedding. I know my size currently and alterations can make the dress smaller. However, if I were to go down two dress sizes, would I be in trouble? Like, would they say I need to buy a whole new dress?

Thanks, y’all!

If you order a sample dress on sale at Davids, they can get one from another store if they have one in stock. You cant guarantee it wont need some repairs. They should fix any dirty spots or missing buttons etc... my dress was about 3 inches too big in the bodice. I took it to a local seamstress and they took it in for me. But its not cheap. So if you lose much it may take quite a bit to alter. Also, if you get one really token big, it may lose the shape and change the look of the dress altogether. My skirt was plain cut tulle too and its plain but it was gorgeous as it was.

I bought a sample dress from DB and it only has a slight rip that was unnoticeable in the tulle bodice. Other than that everything was excellent. It was an 8, and in regular clothes, I'm a 12 in bottoms, Medium in tops. Sample dresses can be stretched out from being tried on but I would recommend trying on the dress in store to see how it fits according to size. Not sure if I trust DBs runs small/large meter

When I asked about fixing sample dress they said they fix them for a fee but don’t take it back to new like conditions. To me it wasn’t worth it as I feel their sample prices weren’t that much cheaper. The one I found was only $50 less than new

I work at David’s and I’ll answer these the best I can:

    1) davids is technically an off the rack store- so if they have a dress in your size they will give it to you (if there is not major damage!) small snags and such they can fix in store during alterations at no cost but it’s more common to order a dress than take it off the floor.
    2) I love that dress. I don’t think it’s too simple at the bottom, but if you feel the need to add more you will have to take it else where to have it changed as David’s will not alter the integrity of the dress. I can imagine it will cost a pretty penny to have a dress changed like this.
    3) congrats on losing weight! I would recommend getting the size you’re in now and then have it taken in. To go two whole sizes down you will have to lose 4 inches around the bust area as this is an empire waist dress. Because it’s fitted around the bust I woukd imagine the size you are in now would work unless you lost a drastic amount of waist specifically in your boob/back area. It all depends on how far away your wedding is. If it’s next year, maybe hold off on that. If it’s 6-7 months I would order your size and then have it taken in!

Good luck with everything and let me know if you have any questions!

This is the dress I picked! I've never seen another bride on here with it, so exciting!!

I specifically picked a dress with a more plain skirt because I wanted a really stand out bouquet, and I thought it would pop more with a bit of a plainer skirt behind it. The other thing, if you chose it in the champagne color, is that the play of the underlay and against the tulle is so beautiful because the colors are so different, that it really does add some interest to the skirt.
