David's Bridal Rant

Kathryn, on January 5, 2020 at 9:17 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 11
Mostly a vent because you guys get it.

I just got off of the phone with David's Bridal because I wanted to track down what's up with my dress. Part of the reason that I was so confused is because I went by myself on a Saturday, and they rushed me through me because they had huge groups to get to. Which I get it, and I think that had more to do with the manager than the poor consultant who was trying to help me. Still, she went over details quickly and told me March 9th. With my first dress they told me something similar and I had it in two weeks, so I didn't bat an eye.

Well, they did NOT order me a warehouse dress. They ordered me a whole new one. I gave it a few weeks for shipping, then I started wondering what was up. Online it says it would come in within a week if I ordered it, so what gives?

Turns out, the store ordered me a whole new dress. 😡 Which is great - my last dress was warehouse and the hook and zipper were suspect anyway - but that means it will be closer to my March estimate. I'll probably deal with it because a newer one will be freshly made and hopefully less alterations due to wear and tear from the warehouse dresses....
But I'm still hopping mad and anxious. Those who have followed my journey know that I'm still losing weight, so I need alterations and have lost weight since i picked a dress. Phew. I'm just ranting but can't believe David's Bridal makes it so confusing to track in store purchases too. What a mess.

Just breathe. New dresses can take months to come in. I learned that from Say yes to the Dress. Just get it altered as soon as you can. You will still look beautiful on your day. If anything start looking for a seamstress that can express your alterations.

In sorry you're feeling stressed. As Kristen said, I would start looking for a seamstress for a quick turnaround now. However, it sounds like they gave you an appropriate estimate. Did you specifically request a warehouse dress?

My wedding is in April, April 4th, so I guess I assumed she would understand that I needed a warehouse dress. But with David's Bridal, customer service is hit or miss. I should've caught it at the time, but she just gave me a date and sent me off. I had to talk to their customer service line to learn what they ordered. I think that's my frustration- I wish I had gone with a salon that would actually take time with brides and explain things better.

Just needed to rant lol. I didn't think she ordered a new dress - I told her my timeline and trusted her to take it into account. My goal is breathe and trust that it'll come in on time with three weeks for alterations. Might be best with my weight loss anyway lol.

Can you ask them to change it to a warehouse dress? And depending on when in March, you should have plenty of time to get alterations done. It shouldn't take more than a month for them to he completed, even when not rushed.

Yes, they explained the store could change it to a warehouse dress, but I figure I may as well chill and wait for my new dress lol. It's supposed to be March 9th, so plenty of time for alterations. I'll just have to make sure to either lean on DB's alterations or go find a lady that can do rush alterations.

Oh that's cutting it real close to your wedding date. I would make sure that they will not charge a rush fee on alterations. I start my alterations tomorrow, I believe we have the same dress. When I was talking to the salesperson at DB, I was told I would only need to get the sleeves taken in, have an inch or two taken from the bottom and to add a bustle. So with the minimal work that need to be done on the dress, I may only need 2 appointments although 3 are offered, but I am also still losing weight. You will probably have to maintain your weight once you start your alterations, since it is so close to your date.

Oh man!! What a stressful situation!! If I were you, I'd start contacting seamstresses now, to set up alterations appointments as soon as the dress comes in. Don't wait until the dress is in, as you may not be able to get an appointment by then, and you won't have much time before the wedding. Just explain the situation, and try to set up some appointments now for a date after March 9. Fingers crossed!

I'm sorry you were rushed, and didn't get all the time you deserved with your consultant. That's rude.

Yeah, I wish I knew when my dress was going to be in because I would be making alterations appoints yesterday. I may make one for early March and start grinding my teeth/making back up plans if DB falls through. But yes, super stressful!

Update: called david bridal store and rose a little chaos. They tracked down my dress exactly - the automated service doesn't help at all. They said my dress was already finished and scheduled to be in the warehouse by the end of the month, so they'll rush it to the store after so I'll get it early February. Phew. I think DB is fine so long as you make sure you what you're getting and when. Also, it's 2020 - where's an actual tracking system?!! But my anxiety is lessened.
