David's Bridal - is it good? i tried dresses on not expecting to find anything, and was surprised by what i found

From what I've read about DB, the dresses and shopping is fine, it's the alteration department that sucks (at least around here).

That dress is gorgeous! Does not look cheap at all. Definietly keep shopping around if you'd like but theres no rule saying you can't make a second appointment at DB and try it on again!

I think it's a beautiful dress! David's bridal typically gets a bad rep from their customer service and from their alterations department.

I think $1400 is a very fair price, and no, your dress doesn't look cheap at all! The train on that is just stunning.

I would always recommend getting a second opinion on alterations, but if you feel like a bride and can see yourself walking down the aisle in that dress, then it's the one for you! It absolutely can be that easy

It’s a gorgeous dress! It does not look cheap at all. Regarding finding a dream dress quickly, it can happen. If it makes you happy and seems like it’s the one then it’s the one! If you do have doubts you are more than welcome to try another store or more dresses. But once you know you really do (as cheesy and cliche as that sounds).


I have heard people complain about DB but also know lots of brides who found their dream dress there as well. I’d maybe see if you can look up reviews regarding the alterations department at your DB to see how they fare compared to a local tailor.

I've bought a prom dress, Debutante dress (wedding dress), formal gown, and most recently a wedding dress from David's. I've never had any problems with quality or service.
Of course because it is a chain there will be good and bad reviews but I've never had a negative experience there.
I think for what it is and offers it has a good value. I would definitely check out other places but I wouldn't right off David's entirely.

I bought my dress at David’s. Actually the same one. It’s beautiful, you look great in it. Shop some more just to be sure, but I think it’s amazing.

I think *part* of the complaints about David’s is snobbery, even if it’s not explicit. David’s offers wedding dresses at lower price points then more exclusive stores, and have a more “retail” feel than “couture” vibe.
Some people feel that lowers the value of the dress somehow, or they wanted a more boutique experience than what David’s offers.

I only tried on 4 dresses as well and chose the first one lol sometimes it is just easy.

I have the same dress and it’s gorgeous... I fell in love with it after buying a different off shoulder mermaid dress in champagne and ivory. I definitely feel more like a bride in the Oleg Cassini you’re wearing. I would suggest looking around a bit long before settling.

I've been nothing but satisfied with David's Bridal. It was the only place where I tried on wedding dresses, and the only other place where I can honestly say I looked was Macy's. Anyway, I made three DB trips before settling on my dress; the first and third trips were at a store in Chicago, and the second one was in the Akron, OH area. I had a wonderful lady named Suzanna helping me in Chicago; she helped me find THE dress. She would also call me between appointments to see how I was doing and keep me abreast of any sales. My bridesmaid and flower girl dresses also came from DB; we only made one trip for the bridesmaids, and that was in Schaumburg, a northern suburb of Chicago. I ordered my veil and headband from the DB website. The store had a veil I really liked, but it was white, and my dress is ivory. I was able to find the ivory version on the website at a lower price.

Your dress is absolutely gorgeous! You shouldn't be ashamed that you didn't try on that many. When you know the dress, you know the dress. In those three trips, I think I tried on a total of 10-12 dresses before I found the one. I'm honestly not sure I could have kept going much further.

It doesnt look cheap to me, it looks fine to me.

I was going to say something similar to this. I think a lot of people are expecting the boutique, Say Yes to the Dress experience when they go wedding gown shopping and David's Bridal is more retail and they just can't give you that kind of attention. I went to DB and tried on 4 gowns and the second one I put on was the one. I had a great experience, my consultant was attentive to me, she helped me with every gown, and I found one in my price point. We went out to lunch after and did the whole champagne thing then rather than in the store (the store doesn't allow drinks inside). So I have no complaints!

I don't think that dress looks cheap at ALL, I think it's beautiful! If you are questioning your decision, maybe try on a few more and if that's the one, you'll keep going back to it. It doesn't fully sound like you're sold yet. If it's just due to it being from DB though, I'd say ignore all that. They have great options and their gowns look beautiful!

Beautiful dress! I bought my dress from David’s Bridal as well! I personal had a wonderful experience and wouldn’t have wanted to go anywhere else. They have a wide variety of styles and for people with any budget(which attracted me there along with the great reviews) the dresses I tried on all very seemed well done. I only paid $450 for my dress and the quality of it is top notch-the material and structure of the dress makes it feel like I spent a lot of money on it. I still can’t believe I only paid that much! It has this beautiful dramatic button detailing along the back that I I’m love it! I couldn’t be happier! To be honest it all depends on what DB you go to. I too have heard horror stories about DB...luckily the one I went to has amazing reviews. I think anyone can have a bad experience at any bridal store. I think people give DB a bad rap due to it being a “franchise”. I’ve also heard the alterations there are super $$$. I plan to just get an estimate there (out of curiosity ) then take it somewhere else to see if the quote is even remotely close! I think the biggest negative with DB is the overall quality is pretty bad. I purchased from a bridal boutique but went to a DB to check out bridesmaids dresses. I was completely shocked at the difference in the quality from a designer gown to a DB gown.

Yeah, no, hun you and the dress both look gorgeous. If you love it and feel great in it and can see yourself wearing it while marrying your person, then absolutely go for it. For sure keep that appointment with the other boutique because, hey, you may find something there you love more. But there's nothing wrong with what you've already found or finding it so easily or it not costing an arm/leg/soul/first-born. Most of my friends who are married got their gowns there and so did my cousin. I have a fitting appointment there in a little less than a month to find my dress and I'm not worried.

The dress is beautiful! My best friend also found her wedding dress at DB and had a great experience!

Your dress is beautiful. I bought my dress from David’s Bridal and I had a wonderful experience there even with alterations the lady was nice.

I got my dress at DB and my experience with them was lovely. My consultant was wonderful and I didn't feel pressured at all. I haven't taken it in for alterations yet so I can't speak on that. But I thought they had a lot of beautiful dresses and was impressed with the quality. I had a friend that got married a couple of years ago and she went to a boutique bridal store and got a really pretty but VERY expensive dress and later had regrets and decided to just go look at DB and she found a dress there she loved more and ended up wearing and I thought was prettier than the super expensive boutique dress.

The dress in your pictures looks amazing on you! Does not look cheap at all and the veil looks beautiful with it as well.

I brought mines from DB also & enjoyed my 1st experience with them but Im nervous about these alterations.. They have nice dresses but their are some terrible ones also.. You did fine
