David's Bridal Experience. Is this normal?

This past weekend, my mom and I went out shopping for her mother of the bride dress. Typically, we're not a fan of chain bridal stores, but we saw that David's Bridal was having a sale, so we stopped in. When we arrived, we were asked what we were shopping for and the salesperson pointed us to the appropriate area then walked off. In the 30 or so minutes we browsed, not one employee came by to ask how we were doing or if we needed any help. After we picked out what my mom wanted to try, we we got a dressing room, she tried them on and work them out to the mirrored area to get a better look. Again, no employees approached us or checked on us. We ultimately decided to try a few other places for several reasons, but the whole experience left a bad taste in our mouth. Maybe we've gotten an inaccurate impression from movies and TV, but we thought bridal stores were supposed to be accommodating and all about making the bride, her attendants, and family feel welcomed and valued. Hell, I thought for sure, they'd at least ask questions and check in on us in hopes of making a bigger sale. For all they knew, I didn't have a dress for myself or the bridesmaids, but I don't think they could have cared less. They didn't even ask if I was the bride.

Is this pretty typical of bridal stores or David's Bridal as a chain? Am I out of line for being a little miffed about the lack of attention from the sales team?

We ended up stopping by another boutique down the street. That particular store only carried bridal gowns so there wasn't anything there for mom, but the saleswoman at least took a moment to ask if there was anything I needed and wished us luck on our search as we left.

If you don't have an appointment scheduled and aren't shopping for a wedding dress, this is pretty normal. David's Bridal is generally very busy especially on the weekends. When I went with a couple of my bridesmaids to get their dresses, we had to approach someone and ask for assistance when we needed it. The attendant didn't come back to check on us unless I caught her eye and waved her over, and when I did that, she was very helpful and did as we requested. This was fine though... we didn't really need much help from an attendant just for bridesmaid dresses. We were happy not to have an attendant hovering, honestly. When we went for my wedding dress and I had an appointment scheduled, our attendant was VERY helpful and spent the entire 90 minutes of the appointment with us exclusively. She helped me in and out of 8 dresses, even though you're only supposed to try 3-5 lol. They schedule out their days based on the appointments that have been made so that the people who have appointments can have an attendant's full attention for the entire duration of the appointment. I guarantee you would've received lots of assistance with an appointment!

I definitely think it’s hit or miss depending on the store. A few years ago I went with my friend who was getting married (I was her MOH), along with another bridesmaid, to pick out bridesmaids dresses, and the attendant was crazy rude. Me and the other bridesmaid tried on the same dress and when we came out, the attendant turned to me (and me alone) and asked, “You’re planning to lose weight before the wedding, right?” Mind you, I’m a size 8, and the other girls were sizes 2-4, but regardless, we were just blown away by how ridiculously out of line she was. After that, I swore I wouldn’t shop there when I got married, and ended up buying mine at a local boutique. Obviously that was just one employee at one location, but I held a grudge anyway haha.

I had a similar experience I had my dress and was looking for bridesmaids dresses there was 2 people in the front there wasn’t a time they approached us to see if we were ok which I was fine with we found some dresses and had my MOH try them on but got a few the wrong size when I went back to get the correct size I couldn’t find the style of the dress so I asked someone in the front but said they couldn’t help me. She said all the sizes should be there just look for the size I neede (I was trying too but couldn’t remember where the dress was from) wasn’t a great experience we just walked out after my sister tried on a few dresses

I was super worried about going to DB, honestly they surpassed my expectations and more. I think that it really comes down to location, I happened to go to one in Los Angeles (Pico/Robertson area), I scheduled an appointment online and went in on a Saturday afternoon with my Mom and Sister. I actually did not cross one person who was there as a walk in and I think that may have been the issue with your visit. During all of my appointments I was made to feel as if I was the only Bride looking at dresses, I had multiple employees come to my dressing room and offer me styles that they thought I would like. It felt a little pushy maybe at first but in no way shape or mode was I forced to buy my dress, it was pushy in the sense that they were all going googoo gaga over the dress I really liked and were consistent with telling me about shipping times and how I should get it but it was my 1st try at dresses so I left with that one dress in mind. 9 months later with no other dress that caught my eye I walk back into the same DB and everyone knew who I was, lol, it was nice like walking into a room of a bunch of old friends. After looking at other dresses I decided to put on the dress again, before I walked out to my family the rep gave the most amazing speech that had me in tears as I waked out. I was encouraged to order a size up and thought ugghhh here is the catch but no she was right the brand new dress was snug and tight so the size up was perfect, my only alterations were for length because I am shorty and to add a bustle. I just picked up my dress Friday night and my experience was phenomenal. I am so sorry that you did not get a good experience, that shop should really focus on improving their customer service. Maybe they deserve another chance, or another store if you're interested.

They tend to be super busy so you have to make a appointment.

I'm surprised. When I stop in (there's one 10 minutes from my house) they always tried to help me. Maybe it was an off or busy day

I got my dress there and had a super experience by the location closest to me! I made an appointment, it was a super busy weekend, however I got an excellent consultant who knew her stuff and helped me with every step (getting dressed, comparing dresses, getting garmets, listened to what I was looking for, and was patient enough).
