David's Bridal dress pick up question

KRM, on October 17, 2017 at 5:46 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 1 36

So I got a call/voicemail (I couldn't answer it) informing me that my wedding dress was in (Yay!) And I could come pick it up within the next 7 days.

I'm planning on picking it up this Saturday. I'm wondering if I should schedule an alterations appointment with them at that time so we can go ahead and get that started. I'm assuming that I will try on the dress to make sure it fits right when I pick it up.

If I don't schedule an alterations appointment, should I schedule a "bridal" appointment? My only concern for doing so is that I know they are pretty busy on Saturdays and I can have a bit more attention if I schedule an appointment. I called DB back to ask what was the best way to do this and the unhelpful answer I got back was, "anyway you want to."

So, David's Bridal brides! What was the process like for you when you went to pick up your dress?

I just ordered my dress from David's and was told when it comes in, my fitting would be scheduled. So, I'm sure the same is true for you.

I picked up my dress on a Saturday. I tried it on and, it of course needed alterations. It was pretty busy when I was there but the women were super attentive and I didn't set up an appointment. I was told alterations would be done in a month and it was done by the date they said. I actually picked up my dress, all ready to go, 2 weeks ago and it's perfect Smiley smile

Also, DB should not be given positive feedback on their site! Maybe.. How rude

The day it came in I tried it on in store (and actually I had lost weight so they reordered me a size down). Anyway while I was trying it on they had a woman from alterations come out and I scheduled an appointment with her based on the amount of work she thought would need to be done.

Don't do your alterations at David's Bridal. It will cost you 3x what a private place will. Find a local place with good reviews for work on wedding dresses. I promise the little bit of research will pay off.

You still have a year until your wedding. I wouldn't start alterations yet. Just make an appointment to pick it up and see if you can schedule your alterations appointment while you are there.

Well, your wedding is a little less than a year away. I'd strongly recommend not booking an alterations appointment just yet. First and foremost, make sure you try on your dress at the store. I purchased my dress at DB and initially planned to have my alterations done there as well, however after several terrible and frightening stories about DB alterations, I found a local bridal seamstress to handle my alterations. I suggest you look at all reviews for your location before booking anything further.

EDIT: Alterations are needed no more than 2-3 months in advance of your date.

Try it on when you pick up! I did and didn't schedule alterations apt. I think you are WAY to far out to worry about alterations I would schedule that a lot closer to your wedding

@OP you have to pick it up on that day. Then you bring it back to the store for alterations.

I was concerned if it was too early for alterations, but I was unsure of what the next step would be since I was told to "pick it up" versus "try it on."

Maybe I'm just reading too much into it

We have the same date! I just ordered my dress from David's, they said not to start scheduling fittings as it's too far out and your body may change.

I bought my dress from Davids in March. It came in June, and they did an alterations appointment at that time. When it came in, I tried it on, and it fit like a dream! I asked the tailor at that time what I should do to ensure that the dress fit for the wedding, and how long they would need if it needed additional alterations. He said I should try it on after Christmas, and IF it needed anything additional at that time, it would be in plenty time to get it back without rushing for our February wedding.

@Wanda so you had an alterations appointment when you picked up your dress for the first time?

My alterations appointment was much different than when I tried on a dress for purchase. I was taken to a more private area in the shop and then put into another area to stand in front of the seamstress for measurements. I made my appointment the day I knew my dress was in so I didn't have to go pick it up and take it home.

I picked mine up, didn't try it on, and they told me to schedule alterations around March. It was a very quick process. I would recommend trying it on just to be certain, but you don't have to. I was in a hurry.

Picked my dress up and tried it on. I scheduled my alterations that day. They only do alteration appointments certain days of the week. Takes a month to get dress back. I'm waiting. Not sure process after that.
