David's Bridal appointment questions

Caitlin, on November 28, 2017 at 2:09 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 47

I'm wondering if someone can describe how their appointment went at David's Bridal. Did the stylist go in the dressing room with you? Did they stay with you the entire time or wander off? Did they pull dresses for you too, or just used the dresses you pulled yourself? Did they provide shapewear for you to wear if need be? TIA Smiley smile

I went on a Saturday. My stylist was helping 3 girls at once. My sister had to help me try on dresses. And my mom ended up having to track the stylist down for different sizes and dresses multiple times. She pulled the dresses I favorited online and gave me a slip to put on under the dresses. Other than that she wasn't much help other than asking how I felt in a few dresses she actually saw me walk out in. If you go on a weekend you're more likely to get this experience opposed to a quieter week day. Just don't expect it to be like on TV and stay true to what makes you feel beautiful!

ETA: my first appointment I stress bought a dress because everyone cried except me. Returned the next day and got a different dress and had a much better experience that time around.

I had like three DB appointments and all but the last one were all horrific.

My first appointment the woman only pulled ball gowns despite me saying I wanted a-line or fit and flare. She told me my "shape" would be more flattered in a ball gown. We ended up leaving. She didn't listen. She didn't let me pull gowns I liked. She didn't look at the pictures on my phone that I had screenshotted (she said she's been in the business long enough to know what looks good on my body). She dressed me and made weird unnecessary comments. She told me I had to wear a corset to give me a more woman-ly shape. I ended up taking it off at the end of the appointment because it looked ridiculous.

The good appointment I had the girl sat with me for a little and I showed her what I liked. She picked the gowns I had liked and she didn't force me to wear shapewear. She didn't make weird/rude/judgemental comments about my body. She came in to help with zippers if I needed it. She wandered off a couple of times but it gave me thinking time so it was nice.

Honestly, I'd go to a local bridal shop. DB can be a huge pain in the ass...

I've been to DB's twice with my daughters and found the consultant to be overly busy and distracted with several customers. She never once went into the room with the girls. She was pulling dresses, but also told the girls to pull their own. She wasn't around when a neighboring bride needed clips, so we helped her instead. Compared to other boutiques, the service at DB was sub par.

Wear your own shape wear and set your expectations low. Some DB's are better than others so who knows, maybe you'll have a good experience.

The experience is going to depend on the specific DB location.

I brought a list of dresses from the website that I wanted to try on. The consultant pulled all of them for me. She did not help me into the dresses in the fitting room - which I found challenging. Stepping in and out of those guys on your own is tough! They do not provide shapewear. If you need it, I'd suggest to bring your own.

I just had my appt my DB's last week on Friday. Went well, I looked around and the stylist wrote down every item number of the dress that I liked and took my size. Once I was done looking at dresses all the ones I chose were in the fitting room waiting for me. Stylist did not go in the dressing room with me, if I needed help I asked my sister. Every time I did go out to show the dress I was trying on the stylist was there to help. I had a great experience with them and found my dress as well. Stylist provided a boostie <--— Spell check lol

I went to David's and my first experience was fine, the lady was super busy and helping several people.

I went to another store, a less busy one (i recommend you go to the least busy one btw!!) and had great service. Local boutiques are going to be friendlier and happier to help because they are getting paid more and they want your sale. I didn't have a horror story or anything like that and the girls were very kind to me each time. They gave me shapewear at my first appt and i told them i didn't want any at my second appt because I'm really small and don't need a corset. I just used a strapless nude bra.

Well unlike everyone else I actually had a great experience at DB. Yes they did provide shapeware and the stylist does go in the room with you to help you get in the dresses. I honestly didn't pull any dresses myself, she pulled a few based of the style I described to her and then we went from there. By the end of the appointment I hadn't found anything and she asked me if I was up to trying something different. She had my sisters describe what they wanted me to try on, pulled only one dress of that description, and that was it. That last dress was the one for me!

I went to two different DB and had very different experiences. The first one I went to, the attendant was wonderful. They provided shapewear and she helped me get into the bra, and helped with all the dresses. They also had two different slips for the different style dresses that I was trying on. I actually had two attendants - apparently the manager filled in for the first half of my appointment, and then when the head stylist became available, she took over. They both pulled whatever kind of dresses that I requested, and all the styles that I had marked as favorites online that they had available. Not really relevant, but the first attendant was also very tall, which made getting into the dresses so much easier. I am short and plus-sized, so I felt a little self-conscious with a very tall and thin person helping me, but she put me at ease.

We went to a second DB location, because the first one didn't have my favorite dress in my size, and there was quite a difference between one size smaller and one size bigger, as far as the cut of the straps, so I didn't want to order the correct size sight-unseen. We stood there for a good 5-10 minutes while the workers were standing around on their phones, and waited at least another 5-10 minutes before an attendant helped us after we asked them for help. She was OK with pulling some dresses, but didn't help me at all. I had to ask for help with the long line bra because my mom has arthritis in her hands and it would be difficult for her to help me. After that, she pretty much said here are the dresses and left me alone.

I didn't wind up buying a dress from there, but would have definitely went back to the first location to get it. As good as my first DB experience was, the service at private salons was even better, and I eventually bought my dress from the second indpendent salon we visited.

I also recently went to the first DB location again for bridesmaids' dresses, and had the head stylist again. It wasn't as good of an appointment, but she had at least two bridal parties to deal with. She was nice and helpful, but the level of attention wasn't nearly the same. That could be because it was a bridesmaids' appointment and not a bridal one though. They are getting their dresses from DB.

    Good luck, whatever you decide!

I had a wonderful experience, but went in expecting to be disappointed, because I've heard so many horror stories. My attendant was also helping a couple other girls, but I didn't find it to be a huge issue.

On my original trip I went with my mother and Aunt, with zero ideas aside from "white strapless trumpet". Come to find out, I looked awful in a white strapless trumpet. My attendant took it from there, grabbed a variety of styles for me, and checked back in as often as possible. She helped me change into them most of the time, but I also had help from my mother. We ultimately found THE dress, but I wanted to come back with my friends to see what they thought.

Our second trip, we had the same attendant (I assume this is common practice, but if not, so glad we were able to work with her again!) Super accommodating as well, I had 5 friends, and another Skyping in from across the country. She brought over a couple dresses that she thought I would love (she was right) and I also had saved some online that she brought for me.

Ultimately bought the OG dress that I loved, on our second visit.

They even exchanged my dress for a smaller size without hesitation, because I lost 40 pounds and the dress was falling off of me. This was in June- dress was purchased in January.

All I can recommend, is go in with an open mind. You won't be showered with champagne, or waited on hand and foot, they may have other people they're helping, but that's just how it is. Let the experience be what it is. Bringing your own shapewear might be helpful, if you know exactly what style dress you want, but they also have some on hand that they'll give you. I also would definitely avoid super vibrant underwear haha. Either way, best of luck!

Mine was a really awkward appointment. She first put me in a room with a dress and just said holler if you need help. Which of course I did. Only put dresses on me we pulled. We even asked if she had other dresses in these styles that we could try and just kept standing their. Then when my BM were trying on dresses they kept pressuring us to but them right then and there. I left not happy with any of the experience there.

I had wonderful experiences at all of my appointments. The first was my dress shopping: the consultant set up chairs in front of the mirrors closest to my dressing room for the people who came shopping with me. She allowed me to pull a few dresses on my own then asked me for my shapewear sizes and helped me get into them (those bras are no joke). As I tried on the first few we eliminated the ones I didn't like. She was very engaged in asking what I liked and didn't like specifically about each gown. When I was done she would unzip, unclip or untie me and allow time to get another dress on before coming back in to zip, clip or tie it. She also pulled other dresses based on what I said I liked. I felt like a princess, she was so attentive and really made me feel like I was the only one she was working with in the store even though I am sure I wasn't.

The other two appointments were alterations and they were both so easy and smooth!

I had a wonderful experience at DB. I booked a Sunday appointment and my consultant was with me the whole time. She let me look at dresses and pull the ones I wanted, she also pulled a few. Once I had "the one" on, she had figured out my style and pulled a sash, veil and headpiece that was spot on. My fashionista bestie was there and loved everything the consultant was doing. I highly recommend them, but I would not book a Saturday appointment--even the consultant told me she gets too busy on Saturdays.

I had amazing experiences at DB. I went to one with FMIL in FLa. and then back alone home in NJ. Each time my consultants were great! Might have helped that I did not go on a weekend.

We got there. We're told so and so was our stylist, and to sit and pick my favorites from a book. That was about 10 minutes before I got bored with the book and the lack of so and so coming to help me, so my party and I started wandering the aisles for actual dresses, not pictures. Then, she finally showed up, took a list of the ones I liked, pulled the ones she had. And said of my favorite, that I had seen both online and in the book, that she "had never heard of or seen that dress and they don't have it." Like what???? Then, we went to a room. She told me to get into a slip and bra then left. She came back 5 minutes later to get my into the first dress. Then left for about 10 minutes while I showed my party. Eventually, said party had to help me out of it because she took so long and i wasn't liking the dress. She did this with every single dress. It was a horrible experience.

I went to the David's Bridal in Kennesaw, Georgia and they were great! They gave me the correct shape wear, my sister helped me into all the dresses (which I was more comfortable with) and my consultant was great about listening to what I liked or disliked about each dress and pulled others accordingly! My party and I pulled a bunch originally and my consultant found the one I said yes to!

The consultant went in with me, helped me get the dress on and off. She provided me with a slip. She kept wandering off though which was really frustrating. I've put on some weight and a couple of the dresses I wanted to sit there in cry in because how uncomfortable I looked on them so waiting for her was super aggravating. Also she didn't help me find any of the gowns I had in mind or had pictures of. Also she assumed I was going to "say yes to the dress" (which I did but I also felt pressured) and she made me ring the stupid bell even though I told her I was uncomfortable doing so.

For my appointment she asked a little bit about what I liked and didn't like, and where the wedding will be taking place. She went pull the dresses based off what I wanted (she pulled about 7). She didn't really help me inside the dressing room only because I had my step mom help me put them on. The dressing rooms were small and I was trying on ballgowns so space was limited. She did make sure my voice was heard over all the opinions coming at me. She asked me what I liked about each dress and what I didn't like about them. She provided me with a bra to wear with the dress. I had a very good experience at DB.

At my appointment they had me start out by looking through the "look book" and any dresses I wanted to try on my stylist went and pulled for me. I was provided with a slip with a strapless bra to wear and she came in the dressing room to help me in and out of the dresses. She was with me the entire time, but i think that may be because my appointment was so early. I've heard its pretty common for David's bridals stylist's to help 2 people at a time.
