David's Bridal and dying your shoes....

kelgy, on January 13, 2016 at 8:25 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 8

Hi, has anyone had experience with dying your shoes to match your bridesmaid dresses at David's Bridal? On top of planning my own wedding, I am a bridesmaid for my FSIL. I picked up her "Oasis Blue" dyed shoes today as she's out of town, and I think they look sloppy. I'm a graphic designer, so I pay attention to little details like this. It looks like they either painted them black first and you can see darker spots in some areas, or they might have not put the paint on evenly over the shoe. It also looks like they had paint on their fingers which rubbed off in the inside of the shoe. If they were my shoes, I definitely would complain. Should I mention something to the bride or no? I don't want to stress her out, and I know she isn't the type of person to notice these things unless I said so.

I'm dying mine through David's bridal but from white to ivory. It's $10 they told me. I good I don't face this situation. If it's not really noticeable I wouldn't stress her out. Especially since that's the last thing guests are going to look at.

I would complain if I were her. I know my MOH was in a wedding last year and they completely dyed her shoes the wrong color and she didn't notice until the wedding that they were wrong and after complaining they refunded her money.

This makes me a little nervous to hear, I'm planning on having my shoes dyed navy. I'm wearing sandals so I hope they dye the inside...

@Rachel: if they dye the inside, expect blue feet at the end of the night.

@mna I was about to say the same thing. The dye will come off as you sweat. It's kind of gross to be honest.

I had to dye my shoes as a BM in wedding. It's totally an outdated thing. They look nice but an extra expense that I had to pay for. To answer your question I'd complain to DB.

Is there a way to prevent it? Kinda like dark wash jeans, or is it everytime you wear them?

Technically, the shoes are supposed to be sealed with a chemical before being sent back out to you. Sometimes, however, this doesn't work well. It can also have to do with body chemistry. The dye will wash-off, but if it is a dark color, it can take a while to fully come off.
