Dark Humor

Candice, on April 28, 2020 at 9:57 AM Posted in Community Conversations 1 19

So my Fiance suggested we should make face masks in our colors that say Candice and Brandon 2020 to pass out as wedding favors. I was totally mad about the idea when he said it but now I'm picturing it and I almost think it would be funny.

This is if we get to have our wedding at all. It might have to be cancelled but we're waiting for another update on social distancing legislature before we cancel.

Am I the only one sick in the head enough right now to find this funny?

I’ve seen a lot of couples post pictures on Facebook of them wearing masks while getting married!!

I don't want any face makes at our wedding 😔 I think it looks depressing and sad, and I don't want to look back at our photos seeing them and remembering this difficult time. Ugh I just want everyone to feel comfortable and safe at my wedding like I normally planned. This virus sucks haha.

I do think it's cute to print your guys' names and date on them for favors though, and your guests might find it funny too.

I don't really want them either but we don't have the option to reschedule so I we're trying to see if we can make the best out of a terrible situation. It's reality that our wedding is not going to be what we had planned and gotten our hopes up for so might as well try to create some humor. I know some people are going to wear them now no matter if we could reschedule or what.

I saw some couple on here get married and have on a bride and groom face mask and i thought it was kinda cute actually. i think if you did reschedule and got the face masks as favors that would be kind of cute and humorous

My first thought of a wedding would be no face masks but with the world being the way it is right now throwing a little “fun” into the mix couldn’t hurt! Yes it is sad to look at photos and see face masks but if you were to personalize them that could make a really cool photo! No matter what even if you have masks Just remember it’s not the photos, the food, or the dress it’s the couple and the commitment they are making.

I am an October bride and I am scared about all of this. Scared my dream wedding won’t ever happen but I try to stay positive with the little thoughts like having someone so great by my side! Best of luck to you!

You definitely aren't the only one, since I have seen this ALL over social media. Personally I think it's already a tired idea and not funny. Not offensive...just completely unfunny. I don't think the pictures will age well and I think there are far better ideas out there to bring personality and humor to your wedding.

I don't think it's funny! We actually may do this and hand them out at the door except we aren't going to put our names on them. I don't think people would want to wear them if they have our names on them. My FH'S sister in law has been sewing masks and selling them. She's currently doing them for another wedding.

Have to find humor in these weird times. Sometimes, DH and I find ourselves absolutely losing it over the tiniest, strangest things. And, honestly, if you have to be masked at your wedding? ... Make it as fun as you can!

I saw wedding favors recently that were toilet paper and mini hand sanitizers lol Its the kind of humor you really need working in healthcare or anywhere right now. Mask idea is funny too!

The idea is funny and definitely a unique favor, but I probably wouldn’t end up doing it with my wedding. I’d feel so sad looking back at pictures with guests in masks ☹️

My fiance already planned on being paper married before the wedding. For us the wedding was about the celebration and the party/ guests. My wedding is in July and I have already had a few RSVPs of no due to being out of work during this and some just asking me if I'll reschedule because they are afraid to come. I already asked if I could reschedule and the venue is booked solid. There's no rescheduling unless I get somewhere else and it was a nightmare finding this place to begin with. We don't know when they will let an event of this size be legal again as well. If we get lucky and things are clear by July then we'll have it, we know many guests we invited won't come anymore, we know people will be in masks if we distribute or not. It's just reality at this point.

I haven't seen any on social media, that being said I'm the only one I know who was planning to get married this year.

    I think it's a great idea!
I don't know how long people will be wearing them, since there's so much eating at weddings, but I think they will be necessary this year. If your parents got married in the 80s/early 90s, you probably cringe looking at the ridiculous haircuts and outfits people had. The pictures represent what was going on at the time, and this is where we are now.
Plus, they'll definitely look better if everyone's face mask is color coordinated! How many people get to match their guests faces with the decor?
