Dancing Shoes for Guests

Tori, on June 29, 2015 at 10:04 AM Posted in Planning 0 26

We are having an indoor reception. Carpet and Dance floor. Should we supply those dancing shoes for people to kick off their heels? Like super cheap flats but I feel like we would need a lot of them. My mom saw the idea & wasn't sure if it was just an outdoor wedding thing...

Any ideas?

I bought flip flops from Dollar Tree...about half were used so I'm either going to end up taking them back or more likely dropping them in a donation bin (our reception was in a Country Club)

I'd actually find that kind of strange. People are attending a wedding. They know dancing is a possibility and presumably dressed for it. I wouldn't worry about it. Besides, it'd take a small fortune (and a headache of homework) to make sure you had shoes that would fit all your guests.

I have been to weddings that provided flip flops. I will probably only do this for my BMs

I've been to enough weddings where people take their shoes off and dance barefoot to not worry about this. Especially since yours is indoors. It's a cute idea for favors if you really want to do it, but completely not necessary.

I hate flip flops. I think people should be able to bring and/or wear appropriate footwear to a wedding. If they don't, heck with them.

Seems like an unnecessary cost, IMO. I just feel like if people are going to a wedding - they should know to wear appropriate and functional shoes. Seems like an unnecessary cost that you'll end up wishing you hadn't done later.

I've never been to a wedding that provided flip flops or flats. In my family, we are used to throwing a pair of slippers in our pocketbooks. I think it's a cute idea but not necessary.

I think its an absolute great idea, to purchase some flip flops. Maybe you can order it in bulk off of a wholesale website or maybe amazon. Go for it!

I bought flip flops from Dollar Tree (thanks Maltese). I don't think its necessary but I hate when I see girls on the dance floor barefoot.

We were thinking some dollar store ones too. But I know from past weddings, my family just kicks off their shoes to dance & the BMs pick their own shoes so I hope they pick something comfy. I just don't know about FHs family.

Personally, I hate being barefoot (and I know I will be walking around greeting people all night) - so I have a pair of flats to change into.

I'm also in the club of-- you're an adult, going to a wedding you should know to wear functional shoes you can actually walk and dance in for a few hours!

It seems like an unnecessary cost. People go to weddings knowing that there will most likely be dancing at the reception. I would do this for your BMs, but I wouldn't spend the money on everyone else, unless this is your wedding favor (which seems a little odd).

I was at wedding this weekend that had them and people loved them. I did get some for my reception at the old navy $1 sale and Walmart has them for $.98. I spent $30

The last wedding I attended had 2 huge buckets of flip flops and I don't think even one pair was used. If I've had enough to drink and my feet hurt, I just take my shoes off *shrugs*

The wedding I attended this past Friday had them for guests. They probably had at least 25 pairs. Maybe 15 pairs were used. So I would buy some, just not a bunch! And the wedding was probably 100 people. So I think it's a "know your crowd" type of situation!

People have told me that they were bringing flip flops with them to dance at my wedding, so I am not worrying about it. I think it is cute, but an unneeded expense.

    1) flip flops are *terrible* dancing shoes, you'd be better off dancing barefoot! 2) if I intended to dance at a wedding I'd bring our own dancing shoes -- how on earth could I reasonably expect the host to provide anything I would prefer to mine? Spare yourself the expense and headache, anyone who wants to dance will bring appropriate shoes.

I bought "dancing" socks-- they're nonslip. It's sort of a joke because I'm accident prone. I bought 40 pairs for less than $1 a piece, and I totally plan on wearing the ones that don't get used around the house.

Sizing was much easier as well, since it was a one-size-fits-most kind of deal.

I would agree with previous posters, adults know what a wedding entails and will dress appropriately. I wouldn't worry about it unless it's a "cutesy" little extra that your determined to do. However, it also drives me crazy when people go barefoot at formal events but I can't decide if that would annoy me more or less than people in flip flops. Either way, I would not do it.
