Dancing on the grass?

Cassandra, on July 25, 2016 at 9:56 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 14

We are super low-budget. More than likely not having dancing. If we do, though, do you think it's awful for people to dance on grass? It's all level and maintained. No hills or holes. Our venue doesn't have a dance floor and we can't afford to rent one. The ceremony and reception are outside and we've told guests that heels would probably not be a good idea. Any input on this? I would love to have a little dancing, but don't want people to be uncomfortable. Edit: ceremony is at 2, reception right after.

Do you have a picture? It's not ideal and, depending on the grass, it may be too high and really irritate the guests since your wedding is in the summer. I'd really try to see if you can get a dance floor, or just an area of the venue that's more suitable for dancing.

The one we found for rent (we are in a very small town in Montana) is $350. Crazy as it sounds, that's a lot for us. If it rains, everything will move into the small lodge. We have 38 guests total. 17 of whom are kids.

I'd worry about people slipping just with dew and what not. Depends on how late it is I guess.

Everything is outside in August? I nixed my outdoor ceremony because I decided it would just be too hot. I don't want to wear sunglasses, squint, or be dripping sweat down the back of my dress.

eta: I wouldn't dance outside due to the heat whether there's a dance floor or not.

Well, if I know a wedding is going to be outdoors and in the grass, I always wear flat sandals or maybe a wedge so I don't have to worry about sinking into the ground. I might be okay dancing on grass (especially in a flat sandal), but not everyone is a trained dancer who can roll an ankle and not fall or feel any pain. I would definitely continue looking at dance floor options if you want to have some dancing.

Just a thought: do you have access to the indoor area regardless of what the weather does? Could you just plan to do your reception in there, where there's a floor?

It's in the mountains and we've been out there on hot days and it was pleasantly cooler there than at home. Ceremony is in the forest, reception on partially shaded lawn with tents for seating.

And the only room possibly big enough for dancing is carpeted. I'm thinking, after reading comments, that it's probably a no dancing scenario.

Out of the box idea here but would locking tile/wood squares from like Home Depot work? It would have to be done in advance but would save some cash?

I think it's not a big deal, but I'm having a wedding on grass too so can we say biased? Plus I'm not even planning on dancing. We'll have karaoke and it's like you can dance if you want, I guess? I just don't want to. But I don't see why casual dancing would need a dance floor unless you're break dancing or something.

We live in Livingston, but our wedding is at a venue between White Sulphur Springs and Townsend.

I honestly wouldn't care about there not being a dance floor very much, but I'm not really a dancer.

I'd consider moving the reception indoors if you are wanting/expecting dancing at your reception.

Am I the only one thinking about how many heels will get stuck?
