Did you take dancing lessons for your first dance?

My fiance and I have no dancing ability.

We did! We had 5 hour-long lessons in total, and they helped a lot. That being said, we only did them because my MIL gifted them to us (they were not cheap and we wouldn’t have felt it was worth it if we paid ourselves).

We did! It was a total of about 8 hours. I wanted to do a choreographed dance (we did a waltz that transitioned to a faster tempo freestyle dance) which is the only reason we took them. If you’re just planning on doing a basic waltz with a few spins thrown in there, I don’t think it’s necessary.

But if you’re nervous about dancing in front of people, I highly suggest taking lessons! Smiley smile

We did not. We even have a lot of friends who can dance, and offered, but DH (who hates to dance) didn't want to.

We did practice a bit the night before.

...He sneezed in my face, and I still married him!

My fiance and I took dancing lessons because I'm not a good dancer lol. He was hesitant to do the lessons (he loves dancing and didn't think we needed lessons), but we ended up loving them! It was a date night out for us, and I got to feel more confident on the dance floor.

We are going to do maybe 3-5 lessons. I did dance as a child as well as dance classes in college but, FH hasn't had any training. It's mostly to make sure I don't take complete control during it Smiley xd .

It also makes for a great date night leading up to the wedding.

We decided to do dance lessons. My husband is a good dancer. I’m not as good a dancer as him but I know how to dance. I wanted something that would look better than slow dancing at prom. So our choreographer came up with a dance that’s similar to ballroom dancing. My family from Detroit really enjoyed it cuz ballrooming is popular there. I think everyone else just assumed we came up with the dance on our own. Lol but it was nice because we had fog and our wedding video and photos looked like we were dancing on clouds. I think adding fog is a great idea if you’re not sure about hiring a choreographer. Cuz everyone gets so enamored with the fog that they don’t pay as much attention to the steps you’re doing.

We didn’t, but I was a dancer from 3yo-19yo. Although it’s been about 8 years since I’ve danced I can pick up moves pretty well. So I taught my now hubby to dance (which was not easy... he was pretty bad) and then we just practiced a lot. We didn’t want anything choreographed because we wanted it to be more natural and to just enjoy the moment. However- we did some really cool moves during the dance lol.

We did not! We just swayed and had a nice relaxed moment to ourselves. I am so glad we didn't try to do a stressful choreographed dance.

My fiance and I have just resumed our search for dance lessons. Originally we had looked at Groupon for deals on classes, but as a conversation with his mom reminded us, the first dance is the only dance for which we're actually going to need lessons. We're hoping maybe rather than take an actual class and spend so much money, that instead we can find a private instructor.

    No plans for dance lessons

Neither of us are dancers nor do we have any interest in a choreographed dance ala Youtube. The high school sway is sufficient and able to stay in the moment instead of trying to remember steps.

We're doing them now. We got a total of 21 lessons and learning a choreographed first dance, plus learning several dance styles. We love the lessons and its a great date night, it truly makes us closer and helps us communicate better. We opted for a 20 lesson package (first was free) because FH is super 2 left footed and figured he would need the additional help. We've had 5 lessons so far and are definetly seeing improvement in our dancing abilities. Honestly we probably won't do the choreographed dance at the wedding, because he keeps forgetting the order of the moves, but just understanding the dances will be more than enough for us to feel ready for our first dance.
