Dance of my dreams versus dress of my dreams (kinda long argument with myself- input appreciated)

So as I've mentioned on a few other threads, my FH and I want our first dance song to be Ma Belle Evangeline from Princess and the Frog (Ray is one of Nick's favorite Disney characters). Since the tempo is in 3/4 time the dance would either have to be a Viennese waltz or an Argentine tango vals....

I was never very good at Viennese waltz so I didn't do it very often when I was in ballroom classes, but I have a lot of experience dancing tango and teaching tango and I'm super comfortable with it so obviously that's what I'd like to do. The only problem is you absolutely cannot dance tango in a ballgown (I mean I guess you technically could but it'd be clumsy and weird and you couldn't do ganchos or leg wraps or secadas or anything cool). I mean I guess the obvious solution would be just don't wear a ball gown or have a second dress for the reception that's easier to move in but I've always pictured (CIC)

I agree with everyone about having a dance dress that you can wear only for the first dance, then change back into your ball gown... IF that is doable. You'd need a dress that is not overly complicated to put on and take off, and you need your venue to have a suite/room where you can change easily. If you are a tango dancer then you probably have several beautiful dance dresses already Smiley smile

I think tango is way more romantic. If my FH didn't have two left feet I would have danced tango for our first dance.

I'd just change honestly. Do the dance you want to do and that he can learn to do- or will be comfortable doing. I would have guessed tangoing would be harder than waltzing- but I'm not as familiar with ballroom dancing.

As far as doing "a none dance dance" as a dancer- that's difficult and almost heart breaking. I wouldn't do a none dance dance. (Although I'm trying to figure out what to do b/c my darling lover doesn't dance- and I'm a soloist #struggleisreal)

Have you thought of doing something new for both of you? perhaps a simple zouk choreography?

And that's something else to think of- perhaps less about learning TO dance- and more about teaching him a simple choreography- most of the time people are more comfortable with that- they can practice and rehearse vs trying to actual learn the nuances of dancing out and out.
