Dance lessons: Helpful or Unnecessary Expense?

Nikki, on November 7, 2019 at 6:16 PM Posted in Wedding Reception 1 11
Let me say, I absolutely love my fiance. Okay, now that that has been said I can say what's really on my mind... he's an absolutely hopeless dancer. He tries, and I have to give him credit for it, but that boy has no rhythm.

Anyone had success with dance lessons? Or do thinks it's not worth the money? I'd love to have a great first dance and am not sure practicing on our own will be enough

We loved our dance lessons! I will say it’s not cheap though. If you just want to learn a few different moves I’d recommend watching some YouTube videos. But if you want a choreographed routine and have the budget for lessons I’d recommend it!

We had a lot of fun!! My H is a really good sport though. He said he treated the footwork like bball lol. As long as hes down and you can afford it (it can get expensive) I'd do it!

I'd really like to do a choreographed dance but they're expensive and I also know my FH. My FH doesn't have rhythm either lol. He might be able to pick it up in the class but then once the spotlight is on him, he'll be too nervous to remember so it's the old school sway back and forth lol. As long as your FH is ok with it and you have the budget for it, knock yourself out!

We took dance lessons and had the BEST time. I'm so happy we did! We took 4 lessons, we should have taken 6 but it was still super fun!

My FH is the same way! As long as I can get him to sort of pick up a rhythm I'll be happy. I saw they have a bunch of Groupon lessons here that I might check out to get us started and do private ones later if necessary

Our schedules didnt allow for dance lessons. We needed something that we could do when we had 20 min to spare here and there. So we went to YouTube and learned it from there. Eventually we filmed ourselves to see what we looked like and then made corrections from there. Everyone complimented our dance and its one of my favorite memories of wedding planning. Start to finish we practiced for 6 months.

I can commiserate slightly with your FH! I actually met my FH at a country 2-step/line dance bar but had never 2 stepped in my life. I had no idea what to do with my feet (FH was a great sport those first few months (and still sometimes today!)). I ended up going to a couple beginner classes after we met to learn my footwork and it was very beneficial! I would just recommend practicing the footwork enough that it’s sort of habitual, so by the time the wedding rolls around he isn’t spending the whole dance counting and can focus on enjoying it with you.

I’m in the same boat! My poor fiancé just has no rhythm...and I don’t think I could get him serious enough to learn from YouTube! I’m going to research some local places and maybe Groupon and go from there!

Necessary, my FH love him has no rhythm and is stiff like a board when dancing. He'll try but just so I don't glare at him all night. I have tried at home just us instructions no luck, I've tried Youtube with him and even less luck, to give him some credit tho we have far to many dances that are typical at parties and I cant expect him to learn them all or differentiate one from the other. He has agreed he will go to dance classes for our wedding, I'm thinking those need to come sooner than the wedding but that's another matter. I would say they are if at best just a night you two can go and have fun then its worth it.
