Dance Floor Free Reception- Activities?

Caitlin, on June 4, 2019 at 2:45 PM Posted in Planning 0 10

Our Wedding will be an outdoor backyard Fancy BBQ, As much as I love a good dance party, My fiance and I are not having a dance floor at our wedding. We don't want to do any of the usual dance related traditions or have our guests feel pressured to dance all night if they don't want to. We are planning on putting together a playlist that will play over our PA system throughout the night and if the mood strikes, people are more than welcome to dance it out.
We are planning the following post-dinner activities:

-Possibly have our friend's band play a set

-Offer lots of lawn games for people to play if they want

-Possibly provide a unique photo booth

-Have a small fire for s'mores and a big bonfire for fun

We will also have some more "loungey" areas for people to hang out in if they just want to sit and and enjoy each other's company.

My question is this: is there anything else that might be fun to add in??

In my experience, guests really just enjoy relaxing and mingling. I have been to weddings with a ton of activities and I have been to weddings with only a dance floor and nothing else and if a guest wants to participate, they will. A lot of people just enjoyed mingling at our wedding, though our dance floor was also packed, about half of our guests just wanted to sit down and catch up with family and friends over dinner and a drink. I think you have plenty to keep people satisfied.

The lawn games is a fantastic idea! I have a dance floor but I had added a game board table anyway and will put a sign "tired of dancing? Grab a buddy and play'

Lawn games is great. Corn home, giant jenga, can jam, etc.
Maybe also a board games table for kids/older adults.
A fire sounds fun as long as it’s not too big.

We're doing something very similar! The villa we rented has a ton of lawn games so between that and music playing in the overhead, our guests will be covered. There's volleyball, giant Jenga, badminton, bocce ball corn hole, ping pong (or beer pong) and mini golf.

True! We have a lot of people coming from all corners and a lot of them know each other so I think they'll be happy to sit and catch up Smiley smile

That's cute! Smiley smile I'm not sure we're a board game kind crowd. I've seen it at other weddings though and it's a fun idea!

Our wedding will be kid-free, so no need for things like that. But I really want to do giant Jenga (a favorite!), badminton, Stump Jousting, Giant connect four, ladder ball, and maybe yard pong!

My Fiance hates dancing at weddings and I know he'd much rather spend the night mingling and drinking! Smiley smile I think I could spend the whole night playing or watching people play Giant Jenga haha and yes. There will be LOTS of alcohol!

Ooh that's lucky! the only unknown thing is how our lawn will fare with some of the games (Bumps and divots). But I'm sure we could adapt! and OOOHHH I wish we could have mini golf! I might have to settle for croquet!
