Cutting the Cake/Bouqet & Garter Toss - Timeline question!

Samantha, on May 1, 2013 at 10:29 AM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 15

When is the best time to do this?

Here is our timeline as provided by our venue:

5:30-6:30 Cocktail Hour

6:30-6:45 Introductions

6:45 Toast

6:45-7:30 Dinner

7:30 First Dance

8:30 Cake Cutting/Garter & Bouquet Toss

9:30 Bar Closes

10:00 Sparkler Exit

Since we are closing the bar at 9:30 should we just do the cake/bouquet toss then? I don't want to disrupt everyone dancing. What's the best way to do it?

I am eager to see the responses. I've been thinking about this too. We have 5 hours and it does not seem long enough for everything to take place.

Yeah it does seem really short! We can actually stay until midnight but I figured after the bar closes people will want to leave. We are bringing the after party to the hotel though!

    A few questions...

    1. How big is your bridal party? Ours was about 22 including parents, and intros took 5 - 8 minutes.

    2. 45 minutes for dinner seems a little short, but it could be right. You're having a DW with a smaller guest list, correct?

You could do the garter / bouquet toss right after your first dance. It shouldn't take more than 10 minutes. Then, at 8:30PM do your cake cutting.

Personally, I wanted to get the cake cutting over with. We got intro'd and then went right into our first dance. Then we went right to cut the cake and sat down for dinner. Toasts started right when people were seated, and dinner was served 15 minutes later. 15 minutes after dinner was over, we did our special dances and I did a bouquet dedication. After the bouquet, I was free to enjoy the party with H Smiley smile

I blew up our venues timeline... you can do the same if you want!

How many guests do you have??? Cutting the cake in the back to actually serve takes anywhere from 30 minutes to an hour so keep that in mind when doing late cake cuttings. Also there will be pictures during the cake cutting will you look fresh and cool or all sweaty after dancing awhile??? I have said it before and will say it again I am a fan of early cake cuttings lol.

We aren't having a DW. There are 12 in the bridal party including us. Our final guest count is 125. Would it be weird to do the cake cutting right after dinner? And then do our first dance/bouquet toss?

Then maybe we could close the bar during dinner and keep it open until 10:30? We have four hours of open bar.

Fantastic. I'm going to do it that way then. And I'm going to keep the bar open during the whole thing and just close it at 9:30. If we are going right into the first dance/toss after cake I want people to be liquored up so they will dance. Thanks everyone!
