Cutting the cake song???

So I'm scrolling down the TL of a Facebook wedding group, and a bride asks people's opinions on a song to cut the cake to. I don't want to offend but is this actually a thing. I've never heard of it in my life. Please someone shed some in sight on this subject lol. I'm pretty sure we aren't doing...

I'm pretty sure we aren't doing this since I've never heard of it but I need to know from you guys if doing it is normal.

I hadn't heard of this until my DJ asked. We chose "How Sweet it Is" by Marvin Gaye.

"Cut the Cake" by the Average White Band is my fave, but I've also heard "When I'm 64"....

Well of course the DJ plays a song during the cake cutting -- would it just be silent??

Some people like to choose a song that "goes" with cutting a cake, to signal to guests that its about to happen. Most guests like to watch and take pictures. Those that don't can go refresh their drinks.

We had the DJ play "How Sweet it is (to be loved by you)" for ours.

Our DJ asked us what we wanted and had some suggestions. It wasn't something we had thought about at all but we assume he'll just fade the song once we're done and I'm going to ask about it at the final meeting. We're using "How Sweet it Is" by Marvin Gaye.

I'm doing a mix of Cake by FloRida and some of the instrumental part of "short skirt, long jacket" by Cake (which was also the theme song to Chuck", a nod to our nerdiness) that finishes with How Sweet it is by Michael Buble. It was really fun to put together.

Our DJ played "C is for Cookie" from Sesame Street. (Our cake was a multi-layer cookie cake.) Everyone seemed to enjoy it.

Our DJ asked us about this too, we'll be playing I can't help myself ("sugar pie, honey bunch") by the four tops.

How was I not aware of Maroon 5's Sugar?! I am now obsessed with that song ha ha. Perfect for cake cutting, since that's apparently a thing.
