Cutting the cake song???

ModernDayBride, on April 4, 2017 at 4:45 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 34

So I'm scrolling down the TL of a Facebook wedding group, and a bride asks people's opinions on a song to cut the cake to. I don't want to offend but is this actually a thing. I've never heard of it in my life. Please someone shed some in sight on this subject lol. I'm pretty sure we aren't doing this since I've never heard of it but I need to know from you guys if doing it is normal.

I had never really heard of it either until someone posted a thread about it last week I think. I don't see anything wrong with it, but I also don't think its necessary.

I thought wedding cakes, and the cutting of them, were pretty standard for weddings.

And you probably want music behind that.

This was a question on my DJ info sheet..I just skipped it..he can pick something..no one will notice a song in the background then anyway.

ETA: @ Richard Love that song!

Ok I thought I was in the dark here lol . I'm sure the dj will be playing music in the background.

This was a question posed to me by both my dj and coordinator.. had no clue it was a thing. I thought it was stupid too.. They kept pushing me to pick something so we did maroon 5 sugar. We asked all our guests to submit a song that they wanted to hear at the reception on rsvp card, and that was one of them...so it worked out that it was one less song to play on the dance floor..

I didn't know it was a thing too, but it was so easy for me to pick a song. Maroon 5 Sugar

Our DJ asked us to pick one, too. We just asked him to play "I Can't Help Myself" by the Four Tops and called it a day. I'm pretty sure I could have said "pick one for us" and he'd have picked something he would ordinarily play during a cake cutting.

Our DJ asked this. We chose an oldie - "Sugar Sugar" by the Archies.

I didn't know I needed one until my DJ asked which I wanted! It makes sense when I think about it but I was unprepared. It ended up being a pretty easy choice though, and like @MeetTheHamiltons I chose Sugar by Maroon 5. Seemed pretty fitting and I enjoy that song.

We're doing Sugar, Sugar too, @Emily. Another popular one is "How Sweet it Is."

I didn't know this was a thing either until I met with our DJ. I decided to use Better Together by Jack Johnson since we got a cake topper that says better together.

I think most people just trust their DJ to play something fun but I don't think there's anything wrong with having a song in mind. I definitely plan on having music through the entire reception. It would be weird to have it be all quiet while fitting the cake.

We used the Cantina theme from Star Wars. Fun, upbeat, a little geeky - it suited us.

Oh there's a song for everything! Haha when my brother asked me, I laughed and he's like no, you really pick a song! Who knew!

I didn't know it was a thing until I met my DJ and he said he prefers having "something" to play during it. We are doing The Archies' Sugar Sugar

I never heard of it either then I got my DJ questionnaire and it asked what song we wanted for it.
