Cutting invites to the wedding

Wedding is a few months away!! We already sent the save the dates out and think 150 out of 200 will come. I have not yet completed invitations because a few things have popped up financially. We possibly need to have less than 150 at our wedding. My fiance believes we should not send an invitation to the people we cut, which I believe is rude. I don't believe anyone gets cut and we manage. Has anyone else been in this position? We could end up managing the 150 but it seems out of reach right now.

I agree with you. I think it's rude to send someone a save the date, but not an invitation. Honestly, I'd say cut your expenses somewhere else. Choose cheaper flowers, cut your catering costs, decoration costs or anything else. Maybe DIY a few things to save money there. Or move money in your budget around to put it where you need it. You may have to give up a few things, but I think that's better than not inviting people who got a save the date.

Can you cut down on plus ones? I think that would be the easiest without offending as many people, but it’s still going to be a sticky situation.

Everything is pretty much cut down. The issue we have is our venue won’t cut down the number of people right now she wants to wait 3 weeks before wedding. We have already paid for some of it but have to put half the balance down. She won’t bring down the number of guest until then. Even if we cut down the guest list like my fiancé said it still wouldn’t help us right now.
