Curly Hair Help for Older Bride

JackieD, on August 22, 2018 at 3:16 PM Posted in Hair and Makeup 0 24

I'm getting married on 10/27/18 and still haven't figured out what to do with my hair. I'm an older bride (53 years old) and this is my second marriage. My hair is curly with tons of frizz. It's also fine. It's a little past my chin when it's curly and past my shoulders when it's blow dried straight. It's got lots of layers. I don't want to do an updo because I don't like they way they look on me. I do like my hair curly but it curls in all different directions and if the wind blows hard I end up with frizz. Our wedding will be in a barn with no heat or AC to dry the air out. If we end up with a humid day (which it often is where I live) and I straighten it, I'll end up with pouf and frizz so I've decided leave it curly because it usually frizzes less that way. I'm thinking about buying extensions to get it a little longer. I won't be wearing a veil but I'm thinking of something in my hair... a comb, flowers... I don't know what yet. I'm worried that if the stylists straightens my hair and then curls it in a uniform way the curls won't last and will get puffy. As you can see, I need help! LOL I'm ready to wear a wig... seriously... just so I don't keep stressing about it. Any advice would be appreciated. I've attached some pics of my hair and me in my dress. Thanks!!!

I think it's SUPER cute exactly the way it is! I'd add a really pretty little headpiece and just rock those curls! (Spoken as a fellow curly here)

I'm also keeping mine curly. The Mop Top custard and the Wella smoothing creme is amazing by the way.

I have curl envy over here! I agree with the PP, add a little headpiece and keep the curls just how they are!

Maybe a small fascinator or something? Your dress has a vintage vibe to me (gorgeous by the way). Something like these, maybe, just to get the ideas flowing. You could also do a pretty barrette on one side?

I love your curly hair! It's soooooo pretty. Especially due to weather, just go with what your hair is naturally gonna do. Here are a few options that may work with your hair and that gorgeous gown:

JackieD, your hair is lovely! Your natural curls will be perfect, they're so light and so you!

I agree with the others, and like you said: maybe flowers or some other hair accessory, like a pin, comb, or clip of some. To pin back some pieces and for the finishing touch on your wedding-day-do. Smiley heart

I included a pretty comb below for some inspiration. Something like this might set in your curls beautifully and compliment your lovely bridal look. Smiley heart You can also checkout our Pinterest page, on our Wedding Hair & Makeup board for more ideas.

I love your hair and think you don't have to do too much with it. I do like the suggestion of a sparkly hair comb or head band or a flower crown if you're into those. I think we are sometimes are own worst critics because I'm loving your curls!

Thank you! I’ve never tried Mop Top or the Wella Smoothing creme but I will give them a try.

Great ideas! Thank for the inspiration! I’m leaning towards the headband. I’m going to try one one this week.

Thank you! I am going to go curly. It will end up that way anyway so no sense in fighting it. 🙂

WOW... you have the prettiest hair ever. Why would you ever straighten it? Surely there must be some kind of serum that could keep your hair frizz free and maintain your beautiful curls just as they are.

I would kill for your hair, but I guess we always want what we don't have! Smiley winking I LOVE your hair in the pictures you included. I have a few friends with similarly curly hair and I know some of them use a hair product to help control frizz (I don't know what specifically -- my hair is thin and stick straight, so I never pay attention when they talk about stuff like that), but other than that, I wouldn't do a thing except adding whatever kind of clip or band works well with your hair's shape. You can buy some very inexpensive options (combs, clips, hairbands, etc.) at a store like Target, figure out which type you like best and then looks for a "fancy/bridal" version of that. Various online, etsy-type vendors will have options, but so will more traditional retailers like David's, the craft stores (Michael's, HL), and mall options like Claire's and Forever 21 (daughter found beautiful headbands at F21, for less than $5 -- when she took them to her trial, her HMUA couldn't believe where she got them or the cost). You could even DIY with some supplies from a craft store. Regardless of what you choose, between your dress and your natural hair, you are one gorgeous bride! Smiley heart
