Vanessa, on May 25, 2017 at 5:51 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 34

I am debating on having cupcakes or a cake for my wedding. What are pros and cons of each please?!?!

We are doing cupcakes because we wanted two flavors and we loved the mini size. We are still doing a very small two-layer cake to cut the bottom layer during the reception and save the top layer for our anniversary. We did not have to pay a "cake cutting" fee from our vendor since there is no cake to cut and serve, which was a nice bonus!

A cake is more proper and less messy. Cupcakes are fine for kids parties, but I don't recommend them for weddings based on feedback I've seen.

It's a matter of personal preference, but I prefer cake. Cupcakes are just SO casual. We had cupcakes in the break room yesterday. It just doesn't feel special the same way a lovely cake does. Plus, they are messier and harder to deal with since you eat them with your hands. Finally, cupcakes are a lot more apt to be too dry since they are baked in smaller chunks.

I'll eat either, but I prefer cake at weddings. Easier/less messy to eat.

I prefer cake over cupcakes. Cupcakes can be messy and I also agree that they feel more appropriate for a kid's birthday party.

I love cake. Our 4 layer cake had 3 flavors so we still had variety.

We did cupcakes, maybe they are more casual but that fits our thing.

I've eaten cupcakes with a fork, so I don't really think messier is a problem if you provide tools.

I like having the ability to really vary flavors. It doesn't cost me any more than a cake.

Something my baker said though was that while you did have more flavor options, flavors might also have a color associated with it. So, if you want all white, you might limit options.

    Preference dictates.

Not to knock cupcakes but I immediately think kids birthday party. If you have a desert bar they'd probably blend in fairly well. Cake is classy. You can always have cupcakes but when do you really get to have a 3 or 4 tier cake?

We will be doing both. We will have a small cake for me and my fiance. Then cupcakes in different flavors for everyone else. We don't have room in our budget to hire a crew to cut and serve cake (our caterer does not offer this service) and we also wanted to make sure everyone got a cupcake in a flavor they enjoy. Plus i love the way sweets tables look.

    We are doing cupcakes!

    Pros-

Multiple flavors, No sanitary concerns like people touching your food, and it actually turned out cheaper

Cons- not the tradition which bugs some people, have to order more than 1 per person. Also people think it is less formal, but honestly the way we are decorating them is. I think cupcakes are just as formal as a donut wall, tbh.

Our main reason was the multiple flavors and no one touching the cake, just a personal pet peeve I find WAY gross.

    ETA spelling

I want to do cupcakes because I love them! Baking cute cupcakes is a thing I do a lot (though of course I will not be baking them for my wedding). I also want to skip the cake cutting and traditions like that so I like how people can grab a cupcake whenever they feel like it. Buuuuut I've seen some really great cake examples that I love, so we'll see.

Were having an outdoor wedding and reception so we're doing 9 dozen cupcakes, a small 6" cake for us to cut

And then a big grooms cake for people that want more then just a cupcake.

We're having a small cake for the two of us as a top tier and two tiers below of cupcakes, and it was cheaper. We're having a "cocktail" hour wedding though with hors d'oeuvres and an open bar, so it's more of a casual wedding.
