Cupcakes and bundt cakes? Alternative cake options?

Has anyone done cupcakes or mini bundt cakes? We're thinking of doing something different for our wedding cake. Simply because we don't like traditional cake and want something different. Has anyone done this? We want an elaborated tiered display and we will also have a small two tiered cake to cut....

We did Nothing Bundt Cakes. Not because we dislike cake, but because they are freaking delicious. Smiley smile

What about a s'mores bar or sundae bar? (I guess you would have to figure out all the logistics first.)

We are doing a huge cookie table with Italian cookies, a smore's bar and possibly cupcakes or something else. We are not doing a cake cutting - but that is just us.

Totally on board... IMO I think if you have a traditional cake in addition to bundt cakes, you should have enough for everyone -- even if that means having a small decorated cake for cutting and larger sheet cake in the back. If I saw cake and was only offered donuts etc. I would def be looking for some cake.

You could do cupcakes, bundt cakes, cake pops, truffles, cheesecake, pies, brownies, donuts, etc...the list could go on...all you need is something to cut int for the ceremonial cake cutting but after that its all up to you.

We are doing cupcakes; five different favors on a 6-tier cake shape stand. The top layer is a regular 6-inch round cake for us to cut-in to/save for the one year anniversary.

We had a two tiered cake and cupcakes for our wedding and it was a hit! We were able to have so many different flavor combinations.

Yes. We did a small cake to cut and mini cupcakes. It cost us less to do a massive amount of mini cupcakes than a large cake due to the cutting fee at our venue. The cost for the baker was more for cupcakes than a cake. Basically, we reallocated the cutting fee to get a massive amount effing amazing filled cupcakes. We ended up doing 6 flavors because we just couldn't choose.

My FH and I are going to have cupcakes instead of wedding cake. Everyone in the family is so excited to have cupcakes. We actually found a local bakery that sells cupcakes for $1.75 each and their cake costs more like $3 per person. So for us it's working out. Just do whatever you want it your day with your FS.

I went to a cupcake wedding once. I enjoyed it. Other people, however...well, I should preface this by saying that my family is REALLY messed up sometimes. My cousin had a cupcake wedding. I will never understand why it was taken to this level, but people freaked out. Some people immediately threw their cupcakes in the garbage while they glared at her, some moaned about how "this isn't a REAL wedding!" and one person-I'm dead serious- got in her face and screamed "HOW DARE YOU?!" The entire night, people made remarks about how my cousin and her new husband were "literally the trashiest, most selfish people in the world. I can't believe how disgusting this is." To this day, nobody discusses her wedding without shitting all over her unforgivable cupcakes. When my FW and I announced our engagement, the first thing out of my mother's mouth was "You BETTER have a cake if you know what's good for you. I won't tolerate any cupcake bullshit. I won't stand for it." Needless to say, my cousin doesn't speak to most of the family and I can't say I blame her. OP, your loved ones probably aren't psychotic enough to do this, but I just had to share what happened at the only cupcake wedding I've ever seen.

We got Bundtinis from Nothing Bundt Cakes and it was the one thing every guest talked to us about! It was HUGE hit! And they delivered to our venue for a flat fee ($15). PLUS they gave us two dozen for free and gave us 10% off our entire order for placing such a large order (we ordered 25 dozen bundtinis (2 of which were free) in three different flavors, plus an 8" bundt cake for us to cut). It was delivered around noon and our venue kept it refrigerated until the reception. They set it up for us.

ETA: And it was cheaper than a traditional cake.

So not sure what NBC one of the PP's went to, but ours delivered AND it was a cheaper.

ETA2: We did NBC because it was cheaper, not because we dislike cake Smiley smile I love cake Smiley smile But I knew NBC was DELICIOUS so we had to!

@Katharine - that is insane! My mom and stepmom were irate about our cupcakes. They complained for months that we needed a big tiered cake. Then, during the reception, I found them sneaking a dozen cupcakes before dinner... Guess it wasn't so bad after all. My stepmom is very upset that my sister is planning on doing cupcakes as well. I know a lot of people don't like them and think they're childish, but really? Your experience as a guest hinges on cake?!?
