Cupcakes and bundt cakes? Alternative cake options?

Amanda, on December 14, 2017 at 5:02 PM Posted in Planning 0 33

Has anyone done cupcakes or mini bundt cakes? We're thinking of doing something different for our wedding cake. Simply because we don't like traditional cake and want something different. Has anyone done this? We want an elaborated tiered display and we will also have a small two tiered cake to cut. Thoughts?

Just because you don't like cake doesn't mean everyone else doesn't like cake....

As long as you have enough dessert for everyone, pick whatever you'd like. Maybe you could do both bundt cakes and cupcakes?

We went to a wedding a couple of years ago where they had different types of bundt cake displayed. They were delicious and cute.

Keep in mind that cupcakes and bundt cakes are often a lot more expensive than wedding cake.

It's not so much that we don't like traditional cake, we just wanted something that we know would taste amazing. I find often times some wedding cakes are old and dry by the time they are cut. We want something that will taste really good. And mini bundt cakes or cupcakes also offered more flavors to choose from.

If you find a good baker, the cake won't be dry. Plus, you can always go do a tasting.

I personally love cake and I'd bee sad if I didn't have some at a wedding...but maybe cake pops? Search for an awesome baker and the cake should be great!

I do love the idea of a big stunning cake. It's such a pretty decor element too. And haha at the cheese idea. My fiancé would so do that haha

We did 8 dozen mini cupcakes, and a cutting cake, all different flavors. They were amazing and people raved about how much it fit our relaxed beach wedding.

I thought about doing Bundtinis, but decided on the cupcakes because they actually delivered and set it up, and Nothing Bundt Cakes doesnt.

It cost us $280 with stand rental, delivery, and setup, so it was very very reasonable.

We aren't doing a big cake either.. just one to cut!

I LOVE cake but hardly ever eat cake at a wedding.

We opted to do something different and doing ice cream/cake cupcakes that will be served as soon as we do the traditional cake cutting. That small cake, that serves a lot less, will then be put out at the after party with what's left of the cookie table.

I've been to a wedding that had cake centerpieces, do a bundt cake instead. There's always a dessert bar, ice cream buffet or a donut cake tower. We are also thinking donuts, something different.

We did Nothing Bundt Cakes. It was way cheaper than regular wedding cake and a lot of people love them. Personally, I prefer them to most (not all) bakery cakes. We had the mini bundtinis and also got one of the regular size in red velvet (husband's fave) so that we could have a cake topper/cake cutting just for the tradition of it. They were delivered to venue and my DOC handled the set up for us.

We are doing a 2 tiered wedding cake, then 3 mini cake recipes (bundt, loaf, hearts) and 3 cookie recipes for our dessert table.

We did pies and doughnuts - because we don't like cake - no one cared, but that's our crowd

We're doing key lime pie (marrying in Key West and they have the best ones IMO), French macaroon tower, cookies and brigadeiros in chocolate and passion fruit flavor (a Brazilian truffle dessert).

We are doing cupcakes with a tiny cake for us to cut. If you don't like cake, don't do cake. It's your wedding. Plus cupcakes are easier and cheaper. I've talked to all our wedding guests, no one cares.

I mean, a cupcake is literally just a mini cake. So is a mini bundt cake. If you want something different from cake, you should try to find another type of dessert. BUT, a lot of people love cake so you should consider your guests here. And IMO cake on a plate with a fork is always ALWAYS less messy and easier to eat than a cupcake. At our wedding, in addition to cake, we had macaron cookies and mini cupcakes (bite size=no mess) so we still got to use a cute tiered display. But we made sure there was enough cake for everyone and that the finger desserts were extra. We actually looked into cupcakes instead of cake thinking it might be cheaper--it was NOT.
