Crinoline Debate

FutureMrsPurdy, on December 12, 2013 at 11:04 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 15

A few weeks ago I went dress shopping with my mom and sister and I found my dress! We ordered it and we picked it up tonight. I put my dress on and I thought it looked better without the crinoline, but my mom said I had to wear it. I wanted to point out at the bridal shop that she told me at when I was a kid that shoulder pads made dresses and shirts better and culottes/skorts were stylish! Smiley smile

My question is, are you wearing one? And is it one of those things that you really should wear under your dress? If I really need to wear one I will, but I was curious to see what some of you are doing. Thanks!

Had to google it to figure out what it was. If I'm correct, its that thing they made me try on on the dresses with. I will probably not be wearing one. My dress looked fine without it when I tried it on for alterations and I'd rather not spend more money on something I'll wear once.

If you like your dress without it, wear it that way! And yeah, totally point out those facts to your mom! haha. That would be hilarious.

If your dress is keeping the shape that you want without it... don't get it. but if your fit and flare isn't flaring... or your a-line doesn't have the fullness and a-shape... go with the crinoline slip

You can also get different weights of crinoline to have different levels of fullness. You could get soemthing really light if you feel like you need to compromise.

I'm going to wear it under mine but you don't have to. Barbara is also right. You may want one that is lighter and not so full.

I am not wearing one. I think the model was pictures with one in my dress (fit and flare) and that was the only thing I didn't love about the dress when I was picture stalking it. When I tried it on, it felt a lot less wide, so I actually like it better like that!

    Ditto, pictures!

The first dress I bought I thought looked really good without it because it softened the trumpet shape, but I've returned that one and purchased an a-line/ballgown (kind of between the two in fullness) and I love the crinoline in there to keep the full skirt. We definitely have to see the dress to give an opinion. Like Barbara said, they're pretty cheap at David's Bridal if you want to pick one up and try it both ways with alterations!

My dress actually has a hoop in the skirt so I won't need one. But yes, post pics so we can give the best advice for you!

I wore a fit and flare slip under my dress just for the ceremony and photos. It made it look fuller but it was way too hot to keep on for the reception.

I want to wear one so that my dress can be bigger (hope log for a ballgown). I also want to dye it a blush color for a little oomph. I'm purchasing a large, eight layer one off of EBay for about 30-40 bucks.

If you don't want one, don't wear one. Go with what you envision.

I have a super full ballgown skirt and a rather narrow aisle (it's a church from the early 1900s)....sooo I'm getting a few layers of tulle taken OUT haha. Otherwise dad won't FIT.

I only have a photo of the dress with the crinoline. I have one that I am borrowing so I will not have to buy one. My dress isn't that wide and I know if it has a fuller skirt, it helps define my waist which is good.
