Thank you @Centerpieces and @Celia you both are right. I just had sticker shock when I got the quote, but looking back I know that it'll be beautiful in the long run. They work and our venue a lot and just did a wedding there this weekend, so it helps that they know how to work with the space already. There are a few items that I can cut, so I can drop the price a bit. I spoke with my mom and she agrees with you both that it's worth it. I will definitely look into donating the flowers to a local charity and see if they work with one already.

Those all seem quite high to me. $125 each for your BM bouquets?? Seems like you could make adjustments to make them $75 each. Your bridal bouquet is $275... Also on the high end. Are you open to the types of flowers used, because that's really what drives cost?

Hmm. While $3500 doesn't seem outrageous for all of those things, when you look at each line item, I think there are ways to tweak it. $1150 for a headtable arrangement... Holy ish! I am using my rather large bridal bouquet as our sweetheart arrangement and adding other non-floral decor. Most florists are willing to work with you if you discuss your concerns. They have ways of bringing down the cost, changing the flower types and decreasing the number of stems, etc.

It sounds really beautiful! I'd be carrying that bouquet around for an entire week, lol!

I couldn't read all that was included, but I would definitely consider buying in bulk from some places for things like centerpieces. If you can find a vendor/person who has the type of vases or containers you are looking for, stores like CostCo and Sam's Club sell and ship flowers in bulk!

For my wedding, I'm not doing it for all the arrangements. But it is a great way to save some on the ones that won't be as noticeable or close-up to guests!

I don't think the overall amount is that outrageous, but what is your overall budget? (you don't have to answer but just think about it). I was told that floral should be about 10% of your total budget. For me, $3,500 would be way too much, we spent $2,000 on flowers which was exactly 10% of our budget. Also, my bouquet was $70 - there is no way I would spend nearly $300 just on a bouquet. I know that amounts vary drastically due to season, location and type of flowers. Have you tried expanding your search farther out from your venue? Even if the delivery charge is more, if you can find a place without a minimum cost it may save your more overall. Can you buy the votive candles yourself, instead of renting/buying through your florist?

This actually seems reasonable to me based on the quantity you're getting and the quality of some of the flowers. To PPs who commented on the price of the head table, I assume that will be basically a sprawling arrangement that runs the length of the front of the table? In that case, it definitely makes sense.

I do think you could easily nix/tone down some of the ceremony flowers (guests don't notice them as much because they're hard to see when seated and their focus is typically on the couple, anyway) and the place setting flowers (they're pretty for the tables cape but wilt immediately once guests touch them). The petals in the grass also seem kind of silly, because I'd assume they'll be hard to see!

@annakay it's reasonable for our budget. We ended up putting a spreadsheet together and were under budget on a lot of items. My FMIL put 2,000 for flowers, but we had no idea how much they cost. I'll see if we can cut back because the bouquet inspiration was simple and this seems like it might be a bit much. I expanded our search, but florists in Asheville are more expensive than the ones in the area. One of the florists told me it would be a 5000 minimum, but a big chunk would be transpiration and labor. Our venue had a lot of items that we can use, so I'll see if they have votives.

@twostep The cost would be to decorate the whole table. Here is a picture of the table. It would hold a good amount of guests. Our total guest count will be between 75 and 100. That's true about the ceremony flowers, but I think the pergola needs to be decorated. I'm nixing the aisle petals though. No need for those.

Holy crap.... I haven't even looked into florist yet. I know we are doing basically just the minimum on flowers but now you have me worried. I thought it was something Nicole took care of.....

ETA not saying she took care of it cost wise but she told me when the time came I wouldn't have to worry about the flowers and just tell her what I was looking for and the flowers I was looking into for the reception area would be like $25 a piece with 3 or less on each table.

I went on Sam's club web site and they have nice floral packages for $1000 I'm going with that.

@Therightlane that will be sooo pretty. FH and I attended a wedding last summer where they did something similar with their head table. It was stunning and totally set the decor tone for the rest of the room.

For everything that you are getting I really dont feel like that is high. The head table price sounded high but after reading that it is pretty much 7 centerpieces across the table it matches with the other prices. My florist also alternated centerpieces. Im sure if you want to bring it down you could just do the cheapest centerpiece on all tables. I think its important to also remember youre n our just getting flowers, theres a ton of rentals in there too. Thatreally adds up and they have to pay for all of it.

There really aren't any other florists that have lower minimums? It would be great to get a second opinion.

I took the exact same inspiration pictures to two florists and they came up with pretty different quotes. One florist was clearly not at all comfortable with incorporating succulents into my bouquets and her prices were very high! She also wasn't creative at all. Her vision for my centerpieces was to plant 6 succulents into a round, metal planter. No candles or anything else for $60 each.

The other florist was awesome! She gave me a super detailed quote based off of my inspiration photos. The initial proposal was $800 over budget, so I asked her to make some revisions to the flower types and centerpieces, and she happily did so.

Also, her setup fee is only 10% of the total cost. Your set-up fee looks super high and I also think that it's lame that the centerpiece prices don't include the rental and use of candles and votives.

@Shelly yeah it took me by surprise, but Nicole said a 3500 is going to be one of the lowest in the area since it's on a Saturday in the fall. I'm going to forward it to her for a second opinion. We should be able to knock a lot of the rentals out since Nicole should have them.

@Katia my planner said most in the area charge that or more. There is one that might be a bit more inexpensive, but they specialize in small mason jar arrangement. My mom expressed a high distaste for those, so that's out since she's paying. I suggested the idea of us doing to flowers and she nearly had a heart attack. She doesn't want to lift a finger and just wants to have a good time with the guests, so it's understandable. I'm just trying to not go overboard since they're traditional and demanded to pay for everything.

I'm going to go back to the florist and see whether we can work on cutting it down a bit and get more sketches. The good thing is my planner works closely with her a lot and said she is the best in the area, so at least I won't have to worry about quality.

Why do you need lavender/rosemary at every place setting?

That is easily $500 from the budget.

I would also cut way back on the head table centerpiece, it sounds really elaborate for a table that you won't be sitting at long enough to enjoy.

Areas I would cut (and I mean just cut entirely) would be bouts, aisle petals, and place settings. But that's just me. You could scale back some of the rest.

I also would not buy votives through your florist if you can help it. Yummy candles usually have a good sale going on. My florist quoted me $95 for 65 and I got 72 for $20.

Either way, it sounds gorgeous. Flowers are definitely going to be a high point of your big day
