Coworker hasn't cashed check

How do I approach a coworker to cash a check I wrote as a wedding gift? FH and I could not attend her wedding reception. It has been 5 weeks and she has not cashed the check! I don't want to be rude, but it's so inconsiderate to not cash it for this long. Everyone has mobile deposit these days!...

I don't want to be rude, but it's so inconsiderate to not cash it for this long. Everyone has mobile deposit these days! Another coworker gave her cash - neither of us have received a thank you note or acknowledgement of receipt. Sidenote: I saw a forum about cashing checks a couple weeks ago - this couple got legally married in 2016 and her name has been changed for over a year, so the name on the check should not be an issue.

    She may not be able to cash the check yet. I work at a bank. If the check is written to both bride AND groom it HAS to go into an account with BOTH names on it. If you wrote Bride OR groom then it could go into one or the other account.

    If the check was written to Bride Maiden Name AND groom ..has to

    Go into an account with her name (maiden name) with him on the account.

    If the check says Bride New Last Name AND groom .. again, an account with BOTH names and her name being changed to her new last name.

    Give her some time. There are a LOT of check regulations out there now because of fraud.

    Hope this helps.

    @TheHamWhites - that's not true for all banks. We were able to deposit all of our checks written as "jane doe and joe smith" and "jane and joe smith" into any account we wanted. We didn't have to put them in a joint account nor did we have to wait for my name to be changed. It depends on the bank.

    I think 5 weeks is a long ass time. Just saying. This is why I give cash in a card.

    @rachel it's 6 months then the check is void. I work for a bank.

    So legally they have 6 months to cash a check. I would just ask Smiley smile

    My parents found a check that had been left in one of their wedding cards nearly 20 years later.. it wouldnt hurt to make sure they recieved the card/check. Ive been to weddings where ive walked into the bathroom and seen cards that had been stolen open on the floor empty.

    @TheHamWhites is spot on.

    I'll admit DH and I didn't cash some checks until about 8 weeks after the wedding. People wrote them out to "Mr and Mrs Ski", so neither of our banks would cash them since 1) We didn't have an account in both our names and 2) I wasn't able to change my name until after I had went on all the flights booked in my maiden name. I needed an updated SS card or driver's license to update to my married name - certified copy of our marriage certificate didn't help.

    Note to self for the future: always use "Mr OR Mrs" if I have to write a check to newlyweds! It just wasn't something I thought about until I had issues myself!

    Maybe she hasn't received it or wasn't sure who it was from. Try reaching out to her.

    Maybe they just haven't been able to cash it, like pp said. I remember having a lot of trouble with checks after my first marriage. Had to wait on that social security card, so I'm sure it was at least 7-8 weeks for some of them.
