covid Plan: Elope and Vow Renewal the following year?

Haley, on February 3, 2021 at 3:16 PM Posted in Planning 1 10
Hey! Like a lot of you all, I’ve been dealing with planning my wedding in the midst of the pandemic (wedding planning is difficult enough without a pandemic to deal with. We all deserve like three vacations after all of this stress). So our wedding date was originally supposed to be 10/24/2020 and we pushed it out to 4/16/2021. Now the new date is fast approaching and unfortunately the vaccine isn’t rolling out as fast as we’d hoped. We have a few high risk people that we really want at the wedding so we are thinking of our options. One of the options is eloping at our honeymoon destination now with just the two of us and then having a vow renewal/ marriage celebration the following year to ensure everyone can attend. Has anyone done this/ is planning on doing this? What has your experience been? Thank you so much!

I forgot to add this. Do people want to attend a marriage celebration a year later or do people find that to be a hassle?

My husband and I are doing exactly that! We had a minimony in October and pushed our big wedding to March 2021. Unfortunately, our original venue is unable to host weddings at this time so now we are in the process of pushing it back to October 2021.

For our minimony we only had 35 guests which were our closest family and friends. Everyone who was unable to come to the minimony is really excited for whenever we can have the "big wedding. They pretty much want to party and celebrate with us so they're definitely looking forward to it!

Similar situation. We moved our wedding to November and cut the guest list to around 15 (both our immediate families and 2 close friends) and will have an anniversary dinner next year. Everyone we've spoken to about the changes is on board and all have mentioned they're happy to attend the anniversary dinner.

We aren't in your situation right now, but if I was a guest for a wedding that got changed to an anniversary party or vow renewal celebration, I would still be super excited to come! It's still people who love you and wanna celebrate with you, so there is no reason not to be there!

This is what we're doing. After postponing from July to November (both 2020) and realizing November wasn't going to work, we ended up having a minimony with just our parents in attendance on our 3 year anniversary in September. We've pushed our reception to November of this year when hopefully vaccines have rolled out and things are a bit more under control. If people don't want to show up, then that's fine. At this point, the important part of our celebration happened (we're married) so if the reception doesn't work out, while I'll be a little disappointed, it won't be the end of the world.

Sending positive vibes! Several of us are going through this or have gone through this the past year. We’ve decided to have a minimony and will be having a vow renewal/reception next year or later. I’m hopeful and think people would love to celebrate and join in on the party! I definitely would if I attended one 😊

Yes, we talked about it. Unfortunately, our families plan to wait at least 1 year to get the vaccine after it's available to them

Like many, we also had a minimony in Oct 2020 and plan to have a renewal along with reception in Oct 2021. Planning two weddings was never the plan but it is what it is. Now looking for creative ideas for the renewal. Best of luck to you!
