Covid Cocktail Reception

Allison, on August 25, 2020 at 11:25 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 5
We are planning to do a cocktail hour (2hrs) in lieu of a formal reception, due to covid. But, because of covid we cant have all guests show up at once and stay the full 2 hrs. As such, I am looking for advice on how to communicate the need to stagger arrival times and such. Welcome any ideas/suggestions. Thanks

This is kind of tricky. How many groups do you need to break people into? Could you set up a Google survey and make people schedule times?

Is this cocktail event following your ceremony?

Will everyone be at your ceremony? But then you want to stagger that group of guests at the reception? Is that what you mean? If so, that’s tough. What will the 2nd group do while waiting their turn? How will you kick out the first group?

Instead I’d only invite the amount of guests that can fit at the reception and allow them to remain there for the full 2 hours.

Not sure what your ceremony plan is but I like the idea of an extended cocktail hour!

I would have a ceremony with just family/wedding party and then maybe send out two sets of invites for the cocktail reception with different times? I’d probably put a little note in explaining the staggering times.

I have all of the same questions and concerns as PP. And also, how many guests will you need to schedule a time slot for in those 2 hours? What will your guests do between your ceremony and waiting to be admitted to the reception? How will you tell people to leave when they overstay their welcome?
