Covid Brides: Dress Regret?

Chrysta, on January 14, 2021 at 12:26 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 39
Well, it’s official... we have postponed our wedding for the second time. We went from a two-year engagement in 2020 to a three-year engagement in 2021, and now it will be a four-year engagement with us getting married in 2022 🤦🏼‍♀️😩 I know it was the right/safest decision for us to make. I have heard back from all but 2 of our vendors, and so far everyone has been incredibly understanding and accommodating (crossing my fingers on these last two!🤞🏻)
There is just one thing worrying me... my dress. For one, I’m afraid it won’t fit properly. Two years is a long time! I’ve recently started a much healthier lifestyle and as a result I have been seeing results on the scale. I would absolutely love to be way smaller in 2 years, but that would mean my dress will no longer work (due to the design, it can only be taken in 1 size, MAYBE 2 max). On the flipside, I could totally fail at this new healthy lifestyle and end up gaining weight! 😂 in which case, again my dress doesn’t work because it cannot be let out at all. I’m also worried that I won’t like my dress by the time our wedding finally rolls around. I’ve had it for some time now (since we keep having to postpone). As of now I am still absolutely in love with it, but I’m afraid after another two years I may not feel the same way. Has anyone who’s had to postpone gone through this? Or, if you purchased your dressed years in advance, did you still love it when it finally came time to wear it? Any dress regrets?

I don’t have anything to share on the topic of dress regret as I had a four-month engagement and picked my dress in an hour and a half—yet now when I browse dresses for fun I still have not found a single dress I like even remotely close to mine. I hope you feel the same way about yours and your body is in the right shape for it!! And if not, that it’s smooth selling and you can find something new you love!

But I do want to say how sorry I am to hear you have to postpone, especially considering your event wasn’t until November! I love your posts and hearing about your destination event! 💗

Chrysta I'm so sorry to hear that you've had to postpone again!

I haven't gone dress shopping yet, but since I'm so indecisive, I feel like I'll have a tinge of regret no matter what dress I choose.

I do hope your original dress works out, but if not, that you'll find one you love just as much if not more!

    Sending hugsSmiley heart

****, is indeed a long wait. This whole lockdown, cooking, baking, and this cold also makes me not in the mood for exercising. My weight goes up and down and I worry I won’t fit into my dress in August 2022. I am older (40+) and my metabolism isn’t young anymore. I do still love my dress. But with all this time in hand, I keep thinking to add stuff to the dress. I hate waiting!!!!!

So sorry you had to postpone again Chrysta. My husband and I had to postpone our March celebration for this year as well and have yet to pick out another date. I also hope that I still LOVE my dress how I did when I got it last year.

Aww Chrysta, I'm so sorry you have to postpone again, I love reading your posts and following your wedding story. With all the little details you talk about, I cannot wait to see your pictures! Once your date comes I'm sure it will be totally worth the wait! 💕

About the dress topic, I don't have much advice here, but when I got my dress I purchased it over a year in advance before my date and I did have a sense of worry that I wouldn't like it over time and find something better. BUT I just kept reminding myself the things I love about it, and I also tried to prevent myself from looking at other dresses, haha.

Thank you so much! I certainly hope I feel the same way about my dress as you still do about yours! Part of me is a little worried I am going to lose a lot of weight (yay!) and end up buying the exact same dress a third time (I now have two of the exact same dress) 🤦🏼‍♀️

We had initially planned to wait until closer to our date to decide whether or not to postpone. But, after speaking with our chef, whose wife works as a nurse for the health department, we decided It would be safer for us to lock in our date for next Fall, as she thinks people will definitely be postponing their 2021 weddings to 2022 (and we all know how quickly fall dates book up!). His wife is predicting things will not be near normal by Fall this year. And we definitely didn’t want to spend all that money and have everybody travel to New Orleans only to wear masks, and social distance, only have 50% capacity at restaurants, bars may not even be open by then, and if they are there’s a good chance they will have to stop serving by 11:00 PM. We chose New Orleans for the amazing experience the city offers, and that is definitely not the experience we want to have or want our guests to have. It’s super disappointing. But hopefully it will be worth it in the end

Ugh, it’s soooooo long. We got engaged in 2018, and I didn’t get my dress until March 2020 (8 mos from our original wedding date). Then two weeks later, BAM! Covid. As Covid brides deserve a medal LOL

Crossing my fingers for you, girl! 🤞🏻🤞🏻
It sucks to think about how exciting trying dresses on & finding the one was... and not knowing if you will still feel the same way about it when your day finally arrives.
Are you guys thinking of postponing for this year, or are you playing it safe and moving it to 2022?

Aww thanks so much Marissa, you are so
sweet 💕 You are completely right about not looking at other dresses. I’m going to have to make a pact with myself to not look at any dresses for the next year at least. I guess I will just have to try mine on at that point and see if it fits, and whether I still love it. If not, I guess I will have to start looking again 😩
I also worry that with another nearly 2 years of time on my hands, I will completely rethink everything about my wedding and start everything over from scratch 😂

That all makes a lot of sense—it’s so hard to know how things will look but I’m 100% with you on not wanting a wedding that looks COVIDic, for lack of a better term. And it’s super considerate of you to be so thoughtful about your guests’ experience and health.

I’ll be cheering you on for the best day ever! And hey, more time to save up for some fun extras is not a bad thing Smiley winking

I'm so sorry you had to postpone again!! 2022 will be the year!

I'm facing a similar dilemma with my dress. I was supposed to try on cathedral veils with my original dress last weekend, and ended up trying on completely different dresses (and no veils). I'm also going to try on dresses at a different store this weekend, just to get an idea of what else is out there. So far, I've noticed that each dress I try on, doesn't compare to my current dress in my mind, and I'm leaning more and more towards sticking with my current dress. I don't know if it's just me feeling like I need to change everything just because we postponed, or if I'm just doubting my dress decision, or what, but I'm hoping that by addressing the issue slowly over the next few months, I can make a definite decision one way or another.

You still have a lot of time, so I would wait a little bit and see how you feel about your dress and/or how it fits closer to the 1 year mark. If you're doubting it, you can always go try on more dresses and see how it goes! You might find one you like better, or it might make you realize that your current dress is the dress. Also try on your dress before going to look at other dresses - that might help as well!

Very true- more savings is never a bad thing! Now I’ll just have to stop myself from trying to purchase more/new things during the next year LOL

It’s probably all the extra time on your hands, and the desire to continue looking/planning in order to stay excited about the wedding during this downtime. I don’t know about you, but I am incredibly antsy now that we’ve basically planned the entire wedding and now I just have to sit here and wait for soooooo long.

Ughhhh same... At first, I was excited to have the extra time to plan, but now I feel like I keep checking the calendar, ready for it to be summer 2022. I think you're right, a lot probably has do with just trying to find something - anything - that can be planned (not much else to do during the pandemic lol).

My husband suggest pushing it to October and doing a 1 year renewal but I don't even know if it'll be better by then because I thought it would start getting better now smh So we are unsure right now
