Covid -19 wedding postponement issues

Piper, on March 20, 2020 at 8:36 PM Posted in Planning 0 5
Have any couples run into any vendors that are trying to charge extra to move your date amidst all of the COVID-19 uncertainty? Majority of our vendors have been so understanding and flexible, with the exception of our videographer who claims he has to charge another 50% to book a new date. We are devastated that someone would try to take advantage of this already scary and unsettling situation, and we are not sure what to do because we have paid in full and will lose a lot of money and can’t afford to pay more. Thankfully my job is unaffected, but my fiancé’s hours are being cut, which will already leave us in a financial bind.

What's his justification for charging more? If it's just to make up for any money he's losing that's pretty shady. He knows he's got you by the you-know-what. Did you tell him that none of the vendors are doing that? Maybe it'll shame him into doing the right thing.

50% more to postpone for a new date! That is completely nuts! Maybe you could shame him on social media or something and then he'd feel compelled to do the right thing

There’s no justification other than “this is how our business operates”. It’s not in our contract that we have to pay extra to change our date. It states that rescheduling is possible as long as he is available. So we found a date that worked for him (along with our other vendors) and after he said he would rebook for a discounted rate of 50%. He is already talking like we can’t get any of our payment back for our original wedding back. Totally shady. Even if he agrees to not charge extra, my fiancé and i aren't comfortable working with someone who would take advantage of the pandemic and couples who are in a bind. FYI. We found him on wedding wire. If this doesn’t get resolved we will definitely be writing reviews so future couples don’t have to go through this.

I would remind him that’s price gouging and not considered smart business practice. So he sues you. I think you’ve got a good shot to win. No one could have predicted this. And yes he is losing money but how much more will he lose when on every site you write a bad review. And state the crap he’s trying to pull. It would be different he wasn’t available. Karma man. She’s brutal - and it will hurt him in long run

Did you have a contract? I would fight that if it’s not in there, that’s so disrespectful of them to do that during these uncontrollable times. Sorry to hear that. I hope you fight it and win!
