Courthouse Weddings Anyone?

Anonymous, on October 29, 2012 at 11:37 AM Posted in Planning 0 10

Good Morning!!!!!

So as Ive posted before, my FH and I are moving to AZ in January. I keep thinking about the wedding and moving and its just so much to do. I really love the IDEA of a big wedding, however with moving and everything its obviously not do-able right now, and I really do not want to push the wedding back. So I am thinking of doing a courthouse wedding before we move, and then just plan a big party/reception for the summer after we are all moved and settled. Any thoughts or suggestions or personal experience with this? I dont know how to go about doing this. And also for those of you who have done courthouse weddings, did you wear a wedding dress orj just something small and simple?

When DH and I were married 10 years ago in a civil JP ceremony, my mom made a dress for me, kinda a dressy sundress and DH wore khaki slacks & a dress shirt. We were married on a Wednesday afternoon w/ just my parents (his are deceased), his sister and his best friend. We had a weekend backyard BBQ reception for friends and family 2 weeks later.

My husband and I got married in a small ceremony and then had a big party later for friends and family. It worked very well and he jokes about getting married twice. You can certainly wear something pretty and festive to a courthouse wedding although a big ball gown is probably not appropriate.

You might also consider an elopement sort of ceremony with just a few in attendance followed by a nice dinner out. There are several officiants on Wedding Wire that specialize in that sort of thing.

    Best wishes to you both.

Some days I really want to do the court house wedding rather than the planning for now until things calm down

This is my wedding dress, which ive already purchased and already have in my posession. Would this be too much to wear at a court house wedding?

What a lovely dress. However, I think it's a bit much for a courthouse wedding. I think you should probably save it for the big celebration.

Your dress is gorgeous, and I am a firm believer that every bride deserves to say I DO in the dress of their dreams. If you want to wear it than wear it!

If you are considering to go the courthouse route, check with the court clerk to see if there are any restrictions on weddings, ie # of people, wedding party, dress, etc. That will help you make your final decisions.

Thanks! I love my dress, but I do wish I would have waited to buy one! Because now I feel like I have to have this big wedding to wear it, but at the time I bought it we were planning a big wedding and weren't planning to move! ugh..lol
