Courthouse wedding wait times?

Hello all!

I had a question for anyone familiar with courthouse weddings. My SO and I are planning to get married at a lovely historic courthouse and then have a reception/party at another venue. Unfortunately, the courthouse doesn't do appointments and is first come first serve. My question is, on average, how long did you guys wait in line at the courthouse? I'm asking because I want to plan what time to arrive at the courthouse and what time to schedule the separate reception area? And what time, season, and day of the week did you get married? Thanks!

    I would call the courthouse and ask them if there are wait times, if so, how long, the best time etc.

    I will echo, I'd call and get a little more information about how it works because it's probably a little different everywhere.

    We got married at the courthouse in the winter, Dec. 22 of last year. It was a Thursday. We had an appointment, but we we still waited a bit before we even got in. I would say there were 3 couples ahead of us, and then a handful more waiting after us.

    I tried calling once, but the receptionist was a bit curt, and simply said it depends on the day of the week and season. She wasn't very friendly and did t give me much to go on, but maybe I'll try a different day and get someone else to talk to.

    Do you care if you have a gap between the ceremony and the reception? If not, go early, then go for pics and maybe cocktails for some quiet private time before the reception.
