Courthouse wedding....possibly...??

Zebra_Print_Bride™, on September 9, 2011 at 1:42 AM Posted in Planning 0 30

So FH and I might just end up doing the ceremony at the courthouse and having a big dinner at a restuarant afterwards as a type of mini reception. We are thinking of possibly doing this to save money for our move and we will have a big full blown wedding for our 3yr or 5yr renewal. I was thinking of wearing my wedding dress since I bought it and all my alterations are done as well. I am leaning towards this idea...but i'm still kind of unsure about it....what do you guys think? Could a courthouse wedding be "jazzed up" a little to be kind of romantic like in the pictures i've found?? Maybe even take pictures somewhere else after?? I'm lost...

Sure! It's still your day, so work it! Wear your dress to the courthouse, take some pics, and wear it to the dinner afterwards!

Thanks you guys. We are kind of leaning towards that way more...but I really dont want it to be....not personal i guess is the word i'm looking for. @Mrs.B-Baby, thanks its been a while! lol. But yea we probably, well more then likely are going to be leaving texas, all depending on the draft (nfl) and who FH gets signed to. So we wont really know where we're moving or when until the last minute. Which I think is another reason I'm thinking of the courthouse, cause I'd have to plan a big, well..probably 80 ppl max, wedding in crunch time...

If you look through these real weddings :http://www.intimateweddings.com/blog/category/real-weddings/ you'll see a lot of courthouse weddings where it was just the bride and groom. They look very beautiful Smiley smile I think if you can make it work AND it will save you money, go for it.

It's your day! If you and FH are ok with this, then I say go for it!! Get a photographer for an hour or so and get some photos taken at the court house or at a nearby park or something. FH and I have talked about doing exactly this but my huge family wouldn't let me live it down. I'd prefer something a little more intimate and wish my family wasn't so large sometimes!

Hope you are ok in TX! FH works in Houston and has been keeping me posted about all the fires across the state. Good luck! And keep us posted on your decision!

Hey, I say do you and there's nothing wrong with wearing your wedding dress either, we cut our guest list down from 100 to 40 and we are having a dinner reception at a Brizilian Steakhouse after a small church ceremony.

I see nothing wrong with it. If I was in the courthouse and I saw a lady in a wedding dress, I'd think it was sweet. I wouldn't find it odd or out of place.

You should totally rock the courthouse with your wedding dress! If you're looking for something more intimate/personal though, you can get the Justice of the Peace to come to you for a similar cost. I live in Austin and my best friend did this and got married in her living room with about 10 people and it was a fantastic ceremony. Then they had a bigger party for a larger group of friends/family later.

One of my friends did this. she got a short wedding dress and hired a wedding photographer to take pics at city hall too. it looked amazing!

her and her hubby went to San Francisco for a getaway weekend, just the two of them.

@Nicole D., we are okay, we stay in Harris county and the closest fires to us were in magnolia county which is pretty far. @Juliette, I was thinking of that but its alot more expensive that way then at the courthouse. A couple start at $200 on up which is crazy. @B.B, im hoping people wont look at me like i'm crazy lol. @FutureMrsHarris, i love those photos!! But I do wanna wear my long wedding dress instead of having to buy a short dress.

Our courtouses suck, and they shuffle people through like cattle. Why not have a simple ceremony at the restaurant? If you feed your guests, the use of the room is free! One of the great places here is Perry's. They will do a limited lunchtime menu of like 5 items (including their world famous pork chop) and it runs about $15/person. There are a million options of places like that here in town.

You can save money, and not have to do a courthouse... Just another option.

Oh wow...$200 for a JOP. Prices have gone up since my friend got married Smiley smile I don't remember the courthouses in Houston, but I know they've restored the ones in the little towns around Austin -- not sure if it's worth the drive for the pictures, but some of them are very pretty!

@Meghan Perry's is delicious! Smiley smile

@Meghan, I TOTALLY forgot you were still on here and on my facebook friends list lol. So you could actually do a ceremony at the restuarant? I didnt even know that. @Juliette, yea I was shocked when I heard that amount too lol. And I've seen a ton of pictures from couples who've done their ceremonies in austin courthouses but its a couple hr drive and i wouldnt want to make that drive on my wedding day lol. I'm lost as to if theirs any here in houston like that though...?

Check to see if your courthouse will do your wedding at any time; some won't. In NJ, it's usually on some weeknight after traffic court.

NYC is cool, and I see lots of couples there wearing gowns and tuxes with full bridal parties . It's really kind of neat, but most courthouse weddings are not like that.

Out where you are, an officiant probably won't be significantly more than the courthouse, and you could do a sweet little wedding at a restaurant. I think that's a great way to go!
