Couples Who Rescheduled: Did you lose vendors and what did you do about it?

Kari, on April 30, 2020 at 1:32 PM Posted in Planning 1 4

We are looking into the possibility of rescheduling our wedding (May 30th) and so far it looks like we will have to push it back a full year if we want to keep all of our vendors, as they don't have any aligning availability this summer or fall (our venue is May-Oct only). My FH is not too worried about forfeiting some of our cheaper deposits but I do not want to go through the effort to research new vendors to fill those roles, then risk putting down another deposit only to have that date not work either. I do not want to keep hemorrhaging money on an event that may never happen (we've already shelled out $5k on non-refundable deposits alone). We really want to get married this year, so if we push our event back a full year or more, we'll likely do a small elopement this year as soon as it's safe to do with our parents and a photographer, and then do the full ceremony and reception in 2021 or even 2022.

For others who rescheduled, I'm curious if you were able to line up all of your vendors for a new date, and if not, how you went about filling in the gaps. Do you feel confident in your decision? Any advice to a bride in this situation?

I asked my vendors if they could do the new date before i rescheduled so I was lucky and found a date that worked for everyone. I would prioritize your top or most expensive vendors and make sure those can do the new date before booking.

Oh yes, I've already done all of this. I have a Doodle poll going that most of our vendors have responded to, so I'm easily able to compare all of their availability at once and they can update it as their schedule changes, so we don't have to do a ton of back and forth emails. We definitely want to prioritize our two most costly vendors, but even the lesser priced ones add up. Plus I really don't want to do any more planning at this point. I feel like we put so much time into this wedding expecting it all to actually happen, and doing that work over again without any guarantee that we will be able to have the event we want just feels draining.

I'm glad you were able to find a date that worked for all of your vendors and hope your wedding is wonderful!

Sounds like you've got it on lock. Taking a break from planning us totally understandable

Thankfully everyone was available except our photographer which was a bummer but actually ended up working out. She recommended our new photographer, her style is almost exactly the same and she is actually cheaper so we’ll save some money! We did get a second “engagement” shoot included in our new package so we could meet her before the big day too which will make me even more comfortable with our decision. Other than that our bar service is included in the venue, the hotel block was willing to swap, the catering is doing our dessert so that’s a two for one, hair and makeup were available as well as our DJ. Those are all the vendors we have so not as many as others and most are preferred vendors for our venue which is probably partially why the availability was there as well.
