I wrote a note on our wedding website regarding the date... hope this helps someone.

Under the circumstances of COVID-19 and our desire to marry somewhere near the coast, our wedding date and location has needed to change mulitple times. The 11th of September was not an ideal choice by any means, but postponing our engagement another year or two was not attractive either. We will be privately performing the legalities of our marraige with our officiant on the day before (signing our marraige certificate), giving us a legal anniversary of ****. Friday will only be legalities and we are looking forward to sharing our intimate ceremony with the closest people in our lives on a day that would otherwise be mourned .

I am getting married 9/11/2021!! I picked this day for different reasons..1st it is the anniversary of my grandparents who have been married 70 years when I see them and the love they have still to this day for each other it is an inspiration..2nd my FH is a a disabled veteran and I look at 9/11 is the day the US United as one due to the horrific events that happened that day..With that being said 9/11 is a great day to COME TOGETHER once again this time for life!! If people want to judge me or make comments bc of the date I chose then I don’t need them at my wedding bc the day of my wedding we all come together AS ONE there is no longer his friends or my friends it will be OUR friends there will be no his family or my family again we will come together and it will be OUR family..

We are getting married on 9/11/21 and that day is my birthday!!! Family and friends are excited. I will say, for years after 9/11, I felt guilty celebrating my birthday but what I realized is that life is a precious gift! Wishing you joy and love on your wedding day!

I was 20 years old and living in New York at that time. My fiancée was 25 and living in NYC. His best friend, roommate, and coworker died in the towers. My fiancée was supposed to be with him but was called away by his boss for another meeting elsewhere in the city. He thinks about his friend everyday and the friends name on the 9/11 memorial is my fiancees phone background. He wanted a 9/11 wedding so he can associate it with something positive. If we waited to choose a day where nothing horrible in history happened, we’d not find one.

We're also getting married on 9/11. I've gotten a few looks from people when I tell them the date, but that's about it. I know it's not just another date, but for us, it was the Saturday in September that worked!
