Couples getting married on May 27, 2020

Alicia, on April 14, 2020 at 2:30 PM Posted in Planning 0 6
Hey date twins! So we are supposed to be getting married in Vegas on May 27th I'm so stressed out that it's not gonna happen. How are you all handling this? Have you already postponed or canceled? Or are you like me and wanting to wait as long as possible to see what the future brings?

For May I would absolutely postpone! Simply because stay at home orders could & probably will be extended. All the governors had said that they will not be opening up everything right away, if at all on May 1st! Do you have a backup date for end of year? If not I would find one and put a hold on it. And at this point, it’s not worth risking your family and friends for a wedding when this is still very new and very contagious!

We were set to get married May 22 and went ahead and cancelled it. We still intend to get married in a private ceremony. And hoping we can have our reception as planned at al later date. However, now hearing of social distancing through 2022? So we are not planning a new reception now since so much is up in the air. I don’t want to have to end up postponing again.

Certainly not what anyone wants to do. I wanted my friends and family there for our big day. Hoping we can still have a very special and meaningful private ceremony. However courts are still closed and not sure how to go about getting a license at the moment. 🤷‍♀️

Just out of curiosity, how did cancelling go with your vendors? Did you go through insurance for money back or did the vendors refund you on their own? We haven't officially cancelled with anyone (yet) but just curious how other vendors are handling cancellations rather than postponements Smiley smile

My vendors have been great. Willing to give refunds. Though I haven’t given anyone big deposits (just the venue). I’m hoping to still use my vendors at a later date. So I haven’t asked for my money back. But they’re all happy to give money back if our later date doesn’t work out. I haven’t been impacted greatly by this pandemic like I assume their income is, so I’m not in a big rush to get my small deposits back. All my vendors are independent business owners. Not sure how likely larger companies are to give refunds.

My venue hasn’t been as helpful. They won’t give a refund until they are forced by the state to cancel. Which we are assuming will happen. So just waiting it out with the venue at the moment. We’re taking a gamble. But we don’t feel comfortable hosting an event when we have important family members going through cancer treatments.

I hear ya. Just curious! We've pretty much made up our mind about downsizing and moving it back a bit, but we aren't canceling with them until it's absolutely necessary, hoping that helps us out a bit. Our venue is a family-run and owned winery so I would understand if they don't give anything back, but am still holding out to see what they do if we're forced to cancel.

Hi Alicia! Most couples have rescheduled their May wedding plans facing concerns of extended stay at home orders, and/or continued restrictions on the size of social gatherings. I would definitely reach out to your wedding venue ASAP about their short term operating plans, postponement policies, and alternate dates available. They may let you hold a backup date or have other new flexible ideas - everyone's situation is different right now and you never know until you call!

We've started gathered some tips and resources you can check out here: COVID-19 Wedding Support Central, and you can connect with other May brides facing the same decisions in these popular discussions:
