Couples getting married on August 20, 2020

HELP! Invitation question?!
We are wanting to send out invites asap for our wedding on Aug 20th, 2020. Is asking for our guests to RSVP by March 20th, 2020 enough time?

Ok, is this going to be a destination wedding? Either way, that's pretty early to be sending out invitations.

Most people don't know what their plans are a year in advance (except those of us planning a wedding), and even 5 months in advance (your RSVP deadline) is really stretching it.

Typically, invitations are sent out 6-8 weeks before the wedding, with an RSVP deadline about 4 weeks before the wedding. If you are doing Save The Date cards, those typically go out about 6-8 months before the wedding.

If this is a destination wedding, or if the location is such that most of the guests are traveling from somewhere else, you can tack on some extra time to give your people time to make their plans for time off work, and for travel. But even then, you don't want to send them too early, because they get forgotten. Or people just can't ask for time off that early, so they wait, and then they forget!

I would send STDs in about January 2020, and invitations in May/June 2020, with an RSVP deadline of July 2020.

Hi. It's too early for invites unfortunately.

We are getting married on August 8, 2020 and will be sending save the dates around October. We will send the official invitations in April 2020. RSVP deadline following invites will probably be in June 2020.

If your wedding is a destination wedding you could request a tentative RSVP with your save the dates... and then get the final number with the invites next spring/summer.

You could send the save the dates this fall if you want. But hold off on invites.

I agree, way too early for invites unless you're having a destination wedding that requires flights, hotel blocks, extended time off from work, etc. People simply don't know what their schedule is going to be that far in advance. You would generally send save the dates around this time (still a little early). Then the invitations will go out about 3 months before the wedding giving them about 2 months to RSVP.

If you send invites now, you won't get many RSVP's and people will probably forget about it being that it's almost a year away.

    Hey there Christina!

    Welcome to the WeddingWire community!

According to this WeddingWire article (When to Send Wedding Invitations) for a hometown wedding, usually couples send them out six to eight weeks before the event with an RSVP deadline of about two to three weeks before the wedding day. For a destination wedding, it’s recommend sending these invitations two to three months before the event with an RSVP deadline for about six weeks before the wedding.

Is there a particular reason you want to send the invitations out as soon as possible?

    1. Its on a Thursday and we all know getting time off during the week is difficult.

2.Some of our immediate family members are from out of state.

    Hi Christina!

We have the same wedding date Smiley laugh Not sure if you already figured out when to send out the save the dates and invitations. But I just received my save the dates and will be sending them out early October 2019. We will send our formal invitation by March 2020 and require RSVP by May 2020.

Our wedding is in NorCal, which would mean majority of our family and friends will be traveling from SoCal and Canada. It may seem early to request an RSVP but I'm anticipating some people won't respond via our online RVSP system. So I would have to call them to check in. Also, since the wedding is on a Thursday I assumed that guests either need additional time to request off from work, book plane flights, book a hotel, and/or may not be able to come because its on a Thursday! If that was the case, I wanted my B-list to have enough additional notice so they can plan attend the wedding.

Hope this helps! Cheers Smiley smile

Hey date twin! We decided to send save the dates in October. And we are still having a hard time deciding on when to expect our guests to rsvp back because the wedding is on a Thursday. We choose Thursday because it saved us 3k for our perfect venue.

YES!! I totally understand about getting the best bang for your buck. It was also like $3K cheaper for us as well. Yea, I had a hard time figuring out the timing as well. In my opinion I think sending out formal invites and making them RSVP within 1.5 months before the wedding date would be enough time. Especially for catering head count, last minute decor, favors, etc. My caterer requires a final head count by July so I want to make sure I have everyone RSVP'd in time without stressing.
