Could this be the dress?

Corine, on January 23, 2022 at 7:24 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 25
My wedding is 9/24/2022 - and I just had my first dress appointment yesterday. I’m choosing not show my fiancé or folks outside of my bridal party and want some outside opinions! I think I found my dress - I woke up thinking about it and started researching vintage veils, jewelry, accessories - but it’s very different than what I thought I’d end up wearing - because it has a very dark nude underlay with crisp, architectural lace. It has drama and fits with my venue, a stunning abandoned and dramatic 1920s hotel lobby with amazing original details. I’m going for a moody, romantic, ethereal vibe.

My question - will this dress read as dated or just trendy ten years from now? I absolutely love that it has a dramatic train and feels different and unique. I’m 37 and never thought I’d wear a white dress so the nude feels right to me in some ways. In other ways, I worry it’s too risqué? I think I could pair it with a vintage 1930s veil or some gold and Pearl hair accessories to perhaps evoke more of a bridal feel. It also comes with an ivory underlay but i worry it will lose the drama!Could this be the dress? 1

Oh, it's beautiful. I think it gives a somewhat 20s vibe without being costume-y, and to me, it looks unique and unusual, without screaming EARLY 2020s, if you know what I mean?

It fits your figure really well, you look beautiful in it and I can imagine the vibe you're describing.

IMO, everything dates eventually - I don't think that should be the most important reason to choose, or not a dress!

Does it make you feel beautiful? Can you imagine yourself getting married in it? Did you not want to take it off? Those are the things I'd be wondering! And you already said you can't stop thinking about it!

What did your bridal party think?

    Love! ❤️

The nude lining is on trend, but I honestly don’t see different colored liners going out of fashion anytime soon, especially as many brides don’t want to wear all white. With that being said, like Rosie, I’d focus on how it makes you feel, not how it’ll read in a few years. I do think the lace and shape are timeless though.

That color is perfect! It works so well with your tattoos and works beautifully with your skin tone. The lace is GORGEOUS! This doesn’t look dated in anyway to me. The pearls and gold accessories will pair very well with them. Also don’t worry about it being risqué. Column dresses flow a bit on the skirt and the neckline, while plunging, is very flattering on you. Get it!

Wedding dresses will go in and out of style just like everything else, so trying to find something that will be in style in 10 years is always tough. That being said, its GORGEOUS!

Thank you Rosie! What a thoughtful response. Smiley smile I appreciate the advice to think about how I feel in it and if I can imagine myself getting married in it - I can! I have three bridesmaids - my sister, my best friend since I was 2, and a close friend I've known for 15 years. My close friend was the only one who saw it in person and she loves it (but she also loved most of the dresses). My sister and my two nieces love it too - my nieces (9 and 6) saw pics of all the dresses and chose this one as their favorite, said I have to get it. Smiley tongue My best friend said it's gorgeous. So they all love it.

I really wish I could try the dress on with the ivory underlay, since the nude underlay is the only thing I'm questioning. It feels amazing on, though my friend who was with me made comment (as a compliment) that the dress looks painted on to my skin - and that made me worry that it might just be a bit overkill in terms of sexiness. I love that it's not fully white, but wondering if I might regret that later on.

I think my next step is for my sister and I to go to a few shops in the next few weeks when she can come up to my city to visit, and then to also go back and try this one again - and pull the trigger if I still think it's the one. I have a little time - they said to order by March for time for the designer to make it and for alterations etc. However, she mentioned that supply chain issues mean some designers are running out of fabrics and that made me nervous and feel some pressure...

Thank you - I think you're right that it does look of the moment, but many dresses will. I've just never been into trends or tradition, so finding something non-traditional but potentially trendy that I love is throwing me a bit.

Smiley shame You're so sweet. I think you might be right. Going to go back to try it on with my sister when she's visits in a few weeks, and we'll go to some other places too if only to confirm this is the on. Really appreciate your comment and compliment!

Thank you! I appreciate your reply and input - I guess I'm a little worried I look naked in the dress. My bridesmaid doesn't think so but did mention the dress looks painted on. 😂 It's a strong contender!

Thank you! I do feel really lovely in it - I think I'll try a few more to confirm it's the one, but I think it's the one!

You're welcome! And I definitely don't think it's TOO sexy, but honestly everyone's comfort level with that is different and you are the one who would be wearing it all day, so you have to be convinced!

I think a white underlay would take away a lot of the beautiful details and also some of the retro look, if I'm honest, but might make you feel more secure? My sister also debated a dress with a nude underlay and in the end she just wasn't confident in it, and every woman deserves to feel like a billion dollars on her wedding day. You can always ask them to tuck a piece of fabric up to the waist under the front of the skirt to give you an idea of what that dress would look like with an ivory underlay - it's not the same as wearing the actual dress, but it would give you something of an idea!

I think you're right - and I think I might mostly love it because of the nude layer and the fact that it's not the usual white dress. I love the idea of trying to see the dress with an ivory underlay on - and I might try to track down a sample, though I don't know where would carry it!

Here it is on the Watters website - the details still pop, especially in the back, but not quite as well, you're right.

It is a beautiful dress, but I think you're right - the nude one has much more drama. Of course, if the nude makes you uncomfortable then you can't go wrong with the white one, it is still absolutely gorgeous!

It’s so unique and beautiful. Definitely not too risqué. I’m another vote to keep the nude lining!

You look beautiful! I wouldn’t worry about whether something seems “in or out of style.” Fashion styles change constantly and honestly I feel what considered “fashionable” is subjective anyway.
If you really like it and feel like a bride in it then go for it!
