Cotton Candy Favor?

Bayridgeqt, on November 13, 2009 at 2:27 PM Posted in Planning 0 26

I've been racking my brain trying to figure out a nice favor that people could enjoy. I had been contemplating a candy buffet but realized it would cost way too much to ensure that roughly 150 -200 people have enough candy to fill their bags. Theres a candy place where I live that sells cotton candy, candy apples and things like that. I thought to do candy apples but a lot of people told me that candy apples are more for the fall and Im getting married in the summer. So if you went to a wedding and saw cotton candy as a favor, would you think that was silly or would you enjoy it?

Are you going to have the actual cotton candy machine there and someone making them on the spot?

No, I didn't think of that. I thought maybe to have them in bags, put labels on them with a saying about sweets or something and have them on a side table.

Depending on the style of the wedding. If it is fun and casual it would work. If it is way more formal and elegant then I wouldn't recommend it.

I think of caramel apples as being for fall, but candy apples can be for any time, and the red would compliment a red wedding.

If you buy candy in bulk it is MUCH cheaper than trying to buy in bags at a grocery store. Many party stores sell it in bulk.

I personally don't like prebagged cotton candy. It always seems stale to me, and I bet it would be rather expensive. JMHO

It might be a really sticky idea if you are having kids at the wedding considering that it will be in the summer..Just a thought to consider.

I personally don't like the idea of having the actual machine there. But bagging it up is a cute idea, I like it. I think everyone likes cotton candy.

If you do decide to have the cotton candy machine you don't even have to hire someone to make them it's very easy maybe ask someone who couldn't be in the wedding that means alot to you. At my Nieces birthday party my sister rented the machine and it came with a couple of bags of the sugar stuff you need to make it and we done them ourselves.

I love the idea of color coordinating the cotton candy with your wedding colors! Its veryyy creative Smiley smile

Be sure to include like wetnaps for children! (very STICKY situation there! LOL) dont want sticky fingers touching that pretty white wedding dress Smiley smile haha

You could always have the plastic to put around the cotton candy there in case people dont want to eat it right then? (thats if you make the cotton candy there?)

Ok I am a concession owner and I make and sell cotton candy. few things to take into consideration: Its sugar so its weather tempermental to hot it shrinks gets ugly FAST especially if its pre bagged. Also when transporting pre bagged it gets smashed and looks horrible to humid it melts if its rainy forget it. Having it made there would be best only because it wouldnt ruin as it would be made fresh per person but you would want someone professional to make as it looks easy but isnt and would be SO MESSY. ALso know with different colors normally comes a different flavor and when you go beyond pink and blue it tends to have a bitter taste

I LOVE the cotton candy idea! Who doesn't love cotton candy?! right?

Maybe you can have the candy vendor swirl indiv. pieces and serve in a small dish or plate at the buffet table.. this way guests could enjoy , and not get their hands sticky!?

    Best,

I love cotton candy. I am not into candy apples. I think that it would be best to have it bagged up. I do kids parties as a side business. and cotton cany is messy as well as the machine. You can have it bagged up and have a little note on them. And give it out as they are leaving. Are you doing something else as a favor as well?

What about doing carmel apples with red, white and blue sprinkles since the wedding is around the 4th of July.

I think your original candy idea is better. I think you can do inexpensive candy and not everybody is going to take a big bag. I see lots of leftover candy at candy tables because brides buy way too much. I saw a bride add cookies to hers and it filled up the table nicely. Take the word of cnmnfe44, a professional! Humidity is a killer, and anything like popcorn or cotton candy will get mushy and ugly in humidity. But, I love cotton candy, and I think it's a cute idea.

Cotton Candy is different and cute. If it matches your theme or just you as a couple I say "go for it!"

    Whose wedding is it!?!?!?!..... exactly!

I agree that it's a cute idea, but that it might become a mess should you have little ones running around combined with the heat of summer.

Here's a thought: Go to a candy store and fill the smaller bags with jelly bellies that match your wedding colors. Tie it up with a pretty bow and there ya go!

If you want to add even more of a personal touch to it, buy the candy in bulk and buy the little bags separate. You can write guest's names on them or you and your FH's initials really pretty. Sharpie company makes bunches of different color markers including (I THINK) pastels, should you need them. You can also use decorated packing paper (the kind you stuff in gift bags) instead of cellophane or plastic bags.

If you want more ideas, feel free to let me know and I'll try to come up with a few.

Oh yeah...M&M's company also makes customizable candy. You can order the M&M's in bulk in whatever colors you want, and they will print your initials on each side. =0)

That sounds cute! I haven't eaten cotton candy since I was a little girl and it would bring back wonderful memories for me. I think it is a good idea and I love the idea of them perhaps matching the cotton candy with your wedding colors.
