I think depends on your tradition. In the US, traditionally the bride's family pays [although that is increasingly uncommon and unreasonable]. Where my parents are from, traditionally the groom's family pays. I'm not sure how common or reasonable that is there now. My FH and I started our careers about four years ago, so we've been able to pay for the majority of our wedding on our own, with our parents covering certain items (engagement party, dress, etc.). After reading how entitled parents can be when they're investing a lot into your wedding on these WeddingWire forums, I think this is really the best way to do it. I highly suggest it if you two want to have the wedding day of your dreams!
